If I switch from Powergen will I have to pay £600 arrears immediately
Hi, hope you can a first time poster who's been lurking for some time...
Last winter we had a massive electricity bill - they reckoned it was £600 for three months - I'm still not sure whether it was due to them reading the metre wrong when we moved in or because we have old storage heaters that gobble energy...
Anyway - either way we're now gradually paying it back each month (paying £70/month I believe). We've got some better oil filled heaters for this winter so hopefully it wont add another £600 to our account!
If I were to switch to get a better rate - would I have to pay the £600 to Powergen immediately in one go - or would the new company take it on - I doubt it - so looks like I'll be stuck with Powergen till we catch up.
Any thoughts?

I think Pgen will block the transfer TBH. I would wait will the Arrears are paid then move.Filiss0

I'd agree with the above. Any unpaid balances don't move between suppliers, and until you pay the balance off they will block you changing supplier anyway.Indecision is the key to flexibility0
