ECOTRICITY Billing Nightmare

Options
Is anyone out there with Ecotricity having billing problems?
I have been with them for over a year now and CANNOT GET A BILL out of them!!! I regularly call them and have tried everything from begging to threatening. Each time, I get a different excuse and promesses and then NOTHING! Does anyone know if there is a governing body whom I can go to for help as I have now wasted much time chasing them and at some point will eventually receive a massive bill which will undoubtedly need paying straight away! Also I am so fed up I want to settle this and switch to another provider a.s.a.p. The previous tenants had the same problem, and only managed to get a one yearly bill, SIX MONTHS AFTER THEY MOVED OUT! Surely, this cannot be an isolated case? HELP!!!

I had exactly the same problem.

I joined, and three months later, no bill... I phoned and never got one.

I ended up writing, and sure enough, my bill arrived, with a promise that I would get a bill in January.

January came and went, so I wrote to them again (with a copy of their letter) asking for my bill. It arrived with an apology saying that they were faffing with a new billing system and there had been issues.

I switched to Scottish Power, and received a call - "Why are you leaving Hazzanet?"

" Cos I have to write to you for every ruddy bill".

    "Ok"

I actually had to chase them for my final bill.

    Give up - switch.

  • Must be a new system... when I was with them they were pretty good.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I'm with ecotricity and I pay by direct debit, I get an account every quarter with details of what I've paid and what I've used.

I've also rung them on 08000 326 100 and got really helpful replies.

    Good luck

  • Thanks, i feel a bit better already... the thing i don't understand is how can they run a business behaving as they do?
Such a shame, it was so nice to be trying to do the right thing.
If anyone else is out there with similar experience, please write in, it would be really interesting to see how widespread the problem is...!
Meantime, i see no other option but to take this up with EnergyWatch, just to get my bill!:naughty::naughty::naughty:

Do you have your opening reading, and do you know what tariff are you on, so how much it is costing you? If yes and yes, just make sure you have enough money saved up to pay it (meanwhile you are earning interest on it until they do send you the bill).
If you want to change supplier then go for it, that may just prompt them into sending you a bill anyway.
If it doesn't prompt them into sending you a bill, then leave it another year and the energywatch supercomplaint would mean that you don't have to pay the debt anyway!
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • Hi Annie, thanx for your reply. What you suggest makes good sense of course, I just feel really frustrated at not being able to get anything done! If it were the other way round, i would have been to court by now! Seems really unfair. Could you please clarify the ENERGYWATCH SUPERCOMPLAINT you mentioned? Do you mean that after 2 years the debt gets cancelled?

I am with them too and am waiting on a bill. They seem to send out every 4 months or more.

    I've had this repeatedly.

I know that Ecotricity don't have an in-house billing department. It's all farmed out to a third party, who seems to be rubbish at generating standard bills but tremendous at generating excessive quantities of red bills.

But their complaints department is even worse. Write a letter and you get no response at all. I emailed a few days back in reply to the notification of price increases asking whether they would be doing as npower have been doing (and getting slapped for) and resetting the annual units to 0 and nothing. Not even an acknowledgement of the email.

their staff are lovely on the phone but can't do anything about the bills and the complaints.

  • I've had problems with one part of their system invoicing me quarterly as normal, but another part sending pleasant letters reminding me each month that I owe them 100's for missed direct debits. It all seems to boil down to a new accounting system that is sending things skew-whiff. However, at least you can talk to them and they genuinely try to help you, unlike the grunts on EDF's and British Gas' phone lines, who treat you like muck.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
