Dog doors - advice and tips please
Hello All We are looking at putting a dog door in our conservatory door to allow her to come and go as often as she likes. I have mobility difficulties so its not as simple as it once was. We have asked local company that built conservatory and they have said they can make a new shaped piece of glass for door if we choose…

PDSA-Pet insurance
They say that fools are not sown, they are born, and yes, it is true. Even though I am 60 years old, I was fooled by advertisements that said that the best insurance is the one that pays as much as 98% of the claim amount. We pay, pay for, etc., but it is not written anywhere. We don't pay at all. In addition, we are…

Maybe it's better not to insure your pet?
Hi, If like me your pet insurance is increasing by a lot, you might be wondering if it is worth it and what the other options are. I've made a simple spreadsheet to look at what insurance costs would be vs just paying yourself. Clearly this is specific to my dog (8 year old spaniel) but it might be useful to others -…

Obtaining a vet prescription
Our dog has itchy skin. We've been to our vets several times about it and have basically gotten to the point where we think he'll need lifelong medication. Our vet has suggested apoquel. They gave us the name and we wanted to go away and do some research on price etc first. It looks like we can get it for about £28 a month…

Vet dispute.
If you have paid a vet for x-rays with a view and then want to change vets are you allowed the x-rays or would you have to pay the new vet to do them again?

Cat flea collar
We’ve been looking at flea collars, one of our cats is a nightmare to put flea drops on, so been looking at a collar, I’ve seen one called seresto that lasts 8 months but it’s about £38 😬. Happy to get one if it’s got good reviews, or any others we can look at. Thank you 😊

Vets4pets cost
My dog caught herself on barbed wire resulting in open wound under arm pit. took her vets they put her under and repaired the wound. total cost £806 wound fairly deep about 2-3 inches wide. cost seems extortionate I had other dog spayed last month at same vet for £300 which I would consider a larger operation. Do these…

Pet Insurance
Has anyone else experienced the following…. Roughly 5 years ago I took out pet insurance with a company called Perfect Pet. All payments have always been made on time with no problems. At the time I first contacted them I declared to them my dog was not spayed. They were happy to take my dog on knowing this so I went ahead…

Help with pond pump
Hi. We have a pond which is about 10ft x 8 ft x 3ft deep. It has a pump and a waterfall in it already. I'm thinking about getting a pump with a fountain attachment just to use for the fountain. Do I need to get one for the total water in the pond or can I just get a little one like a lotus pond pump 400

Options when a pet passes
What options are there for when our beloved dog passes? She’s 13 1/2 and is like a child to me (I don’t have children) I’m going to be devastated when the time comes. I remember grandparents burying their dogs in the garden but we will be moving one day, so that’s not an option. cremation, But I have heard from contractors…

Pet Insurance
In times of soaring costs in energy etc, why do pet insurance companies get away with the huge hikes in their premiums? I have just had my renewal policy for my 7 year old dog through which has increased by 50%! I did suggest that this was perhaps a typo, but alas no. The reasons I was given for this thievery (as I call…

Neighbour mistreating cat
Long story short. We'd feed a cat in our garden that looked v close to death - wouldn't come in the house. Found out who owned it and got a message to them. They could not be bothered and had many opportunities to come and get the poor cat and take it to vets. In the end we called RSPCA. They still didn't so RSPCA pretty…

Public liability insurance for dogs
Hello, I’m currently volunteer as a dog fosterer for a rescue kennel and have the qualification I need to get a dog boarding license. This year I’m home boarding a dog for two people so I can decide if I want to start a home boarding business. My earnings will be under £1000 so don’t require a license as yet and I think I…

Dog Insurance - does pet insurance follow the person OR the individual dog?
Hello, Sorry if silly question!! If there has been pet insurance claims on Dog No:1 and then in the future I get another Dog No:2 (puppy e.g Cocker Spaniel). Would my premium for Dog No:2 be more expensive due to Dog No:1? Any help appreciated!

Cat - third party insurance
My Mum (84yo) has recently purchased a Macarthy Stone retirement flat. She does not rent the apartment - she paid market value for it. However the Manager on site is insisting she has third party insurance for her cat - a flat cat who doesn’t go outside of the apartment. The only insurance I can find for cats is health and…

Dog with allergies....
Hi All Our Labrador suffers with seasonal allergies & has to take Apoquel tablets daily for 6 months of the year at an eye watering cost! If he doesn't take them he scratches himself red raw. Does anyone have any alternatives to this medication that they know works? Also has anyone had their dog tested at their vets for…

Pet Protect Renewing Policy Early
Hi there I wanted to flag this as it may be something that the company is doing to catch people out of they're less switch-savvy. Pet Protect renewed my policy 2 weeks earlier than they stated in the renewal letter, feels dodgy when they've put the price up 48% this year! I received my renewal letter dated 4th March…
