Dog with allergies....

Hi All

Our Labrador suffers with seasonal allergies & has to take Apoquel tablets daily for 6 months of the year at an eye watering cost! If he doesn't take them he scratches himself red raw.

Does anyone have any alternatives to this medication that they know works?

Also has anyone had their dog tested at their vets for allergies? If so how much was this?

Are you getting them from the vet?
I get appoquel from petdrugsonline and get a prescription from the vet (16mg £52.50 for 30).
You might find this is cheaper.
Ask your vet what they will charge for a prescription.

    Was the dog insured?

Thanks, will have a look - vet charging £136 for 40 16mg at the moment.

Yes, he is insured thankfully. Trying not to claim too much mind.

so if your vet will issue a prescription (mine charges £14), then that would be about 38% saving.
i normally find it takes them 1 day to despatch and 2 days to arrive (royal mail 48).
My vet emails me a pdf prescription which I upload.

Pet Drugs Online | Low Cost Pet Care, Pet Meds & Fast Delivery

I don't think you can get the discount on prescription drugs

No connection but have found their apoquel prices one of the cheapest and the same each time.
Make sure you order the right ones as has to match the prescription.

There are quite a few online reputable pharmacies that will issue POD animal meds .
Worth a look around. (I am talking about UK based firms who you can also phone to ask questions.)

My cat is on Apoquel off-label via a dermatologist (specialist vet).

My vet gives me a written prescription which costs £17, and covers 4 months at a time. I then purchase from Pet Drugs Online at a much reduced cost compared to buying directly from the vet (he is on 5.4mg 2x a day so about £54 a month for the tablets).

It's not cheap but prior to this, my cat was on steroids (prednisone) and ended up with steroid-induced diabetes. The quality of life Apoquel gives him is worth the cost.
  • Has anyone ever used Pupps' products?

I saw them recently at Crufts and really keen on trying something rather than medication for my itchy Maltipoo.

If anyone has used them would love some feedback before going ahead and purchasing myself!

have you done ano investigationa as to waht is causing your dog to be itchy?

It took 18 months before I established that my dog was reacting to wheat gulten

I had another who reacted to lamb.

I did this by feeding boiled white fish or chicken and boiled rice and the itching stopped.

I then introduced a chicken and rice or a vegetables dog food.

A much cheaper and effective way to solve the problem
