Vet dispute.

If you have paid a vet for x-rays with a view and then want to change vets are you allowed the x-rays or would you have to pay the new vet to do them again?

As far as I know the xray films  belong to the vet.

Your new vet will get the results in your pet's medical records, which they will request unless you request them from your vet and pass them to your new vet.

When I changed vets my new vet said he always took his own xrays as he did not trust another vet to read the xray correctly.

Thank you for the reply. I hadn't thought about him sending them to the new vet with his records. Im hoping a new vet would be able to see the x-rays as I paid £800 for them and dont want to pay again if I can help it. The other thing concerning me is that the vet only showed me the x-rays on his mobile phone which I found odd.

so it's not actually a dispute- at the moment. Hopefully the X rays will be passed on.

Just to say there is a free vet mediation service if you need to use it:

Interesting that if you pay for private X-rays as a human then you are given hard or electronic copies- I would have thought the same with animals
It might depend on the small print as to what you have actually paid for
(trying to think of an analogy, but brain fog today)

You are pay8ing for the service of  taking the xrays but the films belong to the vet . They are his copyrigh.

Your  vet may be willing to give you a copy.

You might be able to agree with the vet beforehand if you want the  films but that may incur an extra cost, assuming the vet agreed.
