Ceiling fans - any opinions?
Having looked at quotes for Aircon etc, and being unpleasantly surprised, we thought we’d give a ceiling fan a go. We’ve gone for a DC unit, specific for the very low noise but because we want a specific look, it’s cost a few £s than the one from B&Q. Has anyone got any opinions about ceiling fans? Hoping just for the air…

Patio drains at damp proof course urgent!
I am in the process of having a new patio laid (work started today). The damp proof course is very low and the plan is to have an aco drain running alongside the house and some in the middle. They’ve laid the ones in the middle but it’s practically sitting on the damp proof course and although the water will drain down…

Remove concrete around the house
I need to re-lay some drains and re-route some water pipes so I need to dig up the concrete in my partner's back garden. I don't want to put concrete back when the work is done. However, I am a little worried about just removing the concrete close to the wall. The wall was re-rendered in the past after the concrete went…

Downlight wiring.
Got 4 gu10 down lights in the bathroom. Metal frames have gone a bit rusty so I've bought a set of the integrated led ones. The new lights have 2 live connections. One is for the switching live, the other one says "loop". I assume loop means permanent live. Is this correct? Anyway, looking at the old light fitting, there…

Buying TV-Help needed please
It's a long time since I had to buy a TV. I'm looking for a reasonably priced 40 or 43 inch and only want to watch terrestrial TV and freeview. Not interested in Netflix or any of the other stuff. However, I have no idea about OLED, QLED, Roku or anything else. I guess I'll probably get different opinions but I'd be…

where can I position my curtain pole above the patio door
Hi 👋 I'd like to put up a curtain pole that's as high as possible and as wide as possible, to elevate the room and make the door appear bigger than it is. I'm unsure what I need to think about before drilling, I know for internal walls I should look for the studs. This is an external wall for a 2009 build (ETA, no…

Should a Beko Fridge Freezer Reach Minus 18 on Setting 3?
I have a new Beko fridge freezer, non frost free, in use for 10 days that I am having trouble getting the temperature right. At setting 3 (of 1-5) the fridge is at 4c but the freezer is only minus 10c even though the cooling cycle is running for 90 minutes or more even when it hasn't been opened. At setting 4, the freezer…

For a while the door is about 15 years old, the threshold, which was lowered at my request, the rubber seal is falling apart—I've tried to glue it a few times becuse I cannot determine the shape and size required by looking on the net - I'm not even sure if it is push fit as too scared to pull it away - its the…

Bit confused on how I'm supposed to re-felt shed roof.
Absolutely no idea with terms so I'll stick with my own description of the job as it should be pretty easy to figure out to what parts I'm referring to. My shed doesn't slope from high to low as a single sloping roof. My roof is a triangle with a peak at the top as you're looking at the shed door. Slope up to the top from…

Waiting Six months plus for planning permission?
Just wondered if anyone could provide any advice please. Last November we applied for planning permission for a bedroom above our garage, it's not an additional bedroom, just extends the very small box room and makes it into the master bedroom. Neighbours were consulted and the time to object was the middle of February.…
