Quote to replace water stop c o c k

hello everyone.

I had a plumber round this morning to quote for the above and thought it was a bit steep but thought would post here to see what people are charging, because I just don’t know.

The fill valve in the toilet is dripping, so that is being replaced.

Mine had seized up so I had it replaced with one of the easy turn levers. Cost me £70 about 3 years ago.

I would also be concerned about still having lead pipes.

Get another quote or two and see how they compare.

Maybe try a handyman rather than a plumber.

that's ridiculous. I didn't have an internal stop tap and had one fitted for under £100 by a plumber

fixing the overflowing toilet was £50

Hi all. Thanks for your replies.

I am going to see if I can get another quote, as I do think it’s excessive. We asked our neighbour who is an electrician if he could recommend anyone and that was who he recommended.

I think my husband is of the mindset of “just pay it”.

We want the bathroom refitted next year and need this stop tap fixing before this can be done.

You should always get 2 or 3 quotes for anything. Ask around for more recommendations don't just go on adverts and for small jobs like that you wouldn't expect to pay anything upfront.

Get a 2 or 3 more quotes and get you husband to give you the £460 and then go for one of the lower quotes(that you think is ok for price and work involved) and pocket the difference.

Another option might be to leave the existing stop tap in place and when the copper pipe starts put a stop tap there

My neighbour did the exact thing as you have suggested a few years back.

The only advice is make sure the old stop C is fully open before you install a new one above it as you won't get the full pressure in the pipes.

My neighbours was stuck in the nearly fully open position so she was ok and the plumber( old mate of mine) checked it and installed a new one above it but said if the stop C wasn't fully open or in the closed position then a new one would have to be put in and the old removed.
