yougov.finance bribe
It's one of these almost-too-good-to-be-true stories, but it is true. First mentioned by @Bridlington1 in the Natwest Regular Saver thread, but I reckon this deserves its own thread as it could be of interest to those who have at least 10 current, credit card and savings accounts and not everyone reads the Natwest RS…

Gains on policies
I hold some with profits bonds, that I have had for 23 years. I understand that the 'gain' is not subject to CGT, but is added to income. I am a higher rate tax payer (nowhere near additional rate!). I don't really understand top-slicing relief - or at least I don't think it makes any difference in my case. The overall…

Why do people with the knowledge seem to invest more in ETFs?
That could be totally wrong which is why I used the word seem (seems to me). Also with "the knowledge" I'm referring to people will more knowledge than me, which will be pretty much all of you & most people I will encounter on any kind of financial forum like this one. Obviously these things aren't factually correct,…

Cahoot Sunny Day Saver 5%
Can someone help me with an interest calculation? My Cahoot Sunny Day Saver pays 5% annually on balances up to £3,000. I have £3,000 in it. Will I get £150? Or is the interest calculated in a way that means I get less? And would I be better off having a balance of less than £3,000? (e.g, £2,850, and putting that remaining…

Doom scrolling and the next financial crash!
I've been reading and watching many pundits who are warning about the levels if debt, particularly in AI, that have cause the markets to grow in the last couple of years. I normally ignore such Cassandras, but this time I find myself agreeing with many of their arguments. It seems like a pretty big bubble and anyone in a…

NS&I has launched new fixed-rate savings accounts that let you lock in good rates for one to five years with total safety, as NS&I is backed by the Treasury. They're worth looking at if you're keen to save with a big name and won't need access to your savings – though you can earn a bit more from the top payers elsewhere……

My S&S diary - investing from February 2026
After sitting to learn about investing into the stock market, I finally jumped in. The 6th of February 2026. I am writing the diary for myself to remember the journey. I could see that I, probably the same as others, tend to only feel comfortable to tell others about what we do, when we are doing fine with S&S, and choose…
