Capital Gains Tax Allowance and stocks
The tax free allowance for capital gains is £3,000 a year. If I buy stocks for £10k and they have gone up to £15k and I then I sell for £3k to take them out. Have I then used my capital gains tax allowance? Is it a smart thing to do to get £3k a year?

Split of house sale proceeds
Hi all, My partner and I (unmarried) have recently sold a BTL property in the hope of using the proceeds to buy a home for us down the line. I am in the top tax bracket, whereas she is in the lowest (below her personal allowance). Whilst we are looking for a house we would like to put the cash in easy access savings. We…

NSI Index linked bond value not changing for 5 months??
Hi all, just curious really. I think I understand the way these bonds work, (or at least IO thought I did??), and each month I go on the NSI website and check the current values. I have a few of these bonds, and pretty much every month the values change, sometimes up, sometimes down, and occasionally the value does not…

Has anyone Transferred into a Trading 212 Cash ISA recently?
I'm curious because MSE suggests that: "Rate 4.58% - 3.6% variable + 1yr 0.98% bonus - Lower rate on (most) transfers" but Trading 212 does not metion anything, and I've looked through their FAQ: "Can I transfer an existing ISA? You can transfer your ISAs in and out of Trading 212 without any restrictions or fees, although…

Change of share registrar
Does anyone know if there are any rules/regulations on what happens to shareholder documentation when a company moves from one registrar to another? I've got shares in SSE, and until Dec 2023 the registrar was MUFG (Link Asset/Signalshares as was), so all my dividend notices and other financial info was there. After Dec…

Reporting CGT to HMRC requires when first bought the shares, but can't find it
This is a bit my fault as I bought some shares some 15+ years ago with a broker that subsequently taken over by another. I thought they pass on al the trade info, but they didn't. They send the value cost and number of shares, but not the date of when shares were bought…! Now I used to keep all my old trading in a separate…

Next £250 payment to Skipton Regular Saver on 1st September rejected twice.
All seemed well until the final confirmation screen where I’m told it exceeds the amount allowed! £250 is the amount allowed as a September transfer payment and the future dated payment is a transfer from one Skipton account to the other. Think I’m right that although my account was opened on 18th August and funded I’m…

Trading 212 ; Trading!
Does anyone experience similar to me? It is baffling and infuriating in equal measure. It seems impossible sometimes to get trades matched. Sometimes I use a limit order. Which sets a maximum price. For example, buy 1000 at 1, when the security is trading at 1.01. It will trade at 0.99, yet my limit order is still pending.…

*partial* S&S ISA transfer from SWSD (iWeb) to Freetrade?
I don't usually bother with cashbacks (SFX: horrified gasps), but I'm tempted by Freetrade's offer of 1% (max £5,000) on ISA transfers/subscriptions. (Though not by their similar offer for SIPPs, for various reasons.) I note there are some issues with ambiguous/modified terms around lockin/clawback times/calculation, but…
