All seemed well until the final confirmation screen where I’m told it exceeds the amount allowed! £250 is the amount allowed as a September transfer payment and the future dated payment is a transfer from one Skipton account to the other. Think I’m right that although my account was opened on 18th August and funded I’m allowed to fund again on the 1st not wait until the 18th September?

Skipton system not able to cope with the idea that setting up a future dated internal transfer in August for a payment in the following month does not in fact increase my august subscription to £500?!

  • Interesting.

Glad mine is being funded externally then, though I had pondered about internal transfers beforehand.

You can save up to £250 per calendar month

which suggests that funding has to be on the same day each month.  At least, that's how I read it.

Calendar month usually means a named month, as opposed to a statement month, which would be the same date each month.

That's my understanding of calendar month too, i.e. months as shown on a calendar, but either way round I don't see anything suggesting that contributions need to be on the same day each month - it seems clear to me that the terms mean up to £250 in August, up to £250 in September, etc, although they do also offer a carry-forward option for unused allowance....

Incorrect. "Calendar month" is anytime from the 1st of that month to the last day of that month. You can fund £250 on any day of that month. However I would not set up a funding standing order any later than 25th of the month because weekdays and bank holidays may mean a delayed payment until the next month and then you miss one months funding and then have two  months funding in one month which is inadmissible. The optimum time to fund a RS is the 1st day of the month to gain maximum interest. My £250 initial deposit for my Skipton RS was made with internal transfer from my Skipton online bonus saver and then I set up 11 SO`s for £250 payable on 1st of each month starting 1/9/21 and ending 1/7/22 done from an external current account. This is my first Skipton RS so I hope I am correct.
Coventry RS`s do not follow the "Calendar Month" rule. They must be funded at least one month after the previous funding date eg if you open a Coventry RS on 15th and make a maximum deposit on that day you cannot fund the RS until the 15th of the next month at the earliest. I think of this as an "Anniversary Month" RS.

Your £250 allowance does reset on the 1st of the month, therefore your second payment can be made as of the 01/09. However, we are unfortunately experiencing some issues with the online system and future dated transfers, or regular internal transfers. For this transaction you would need to log in on the 01/09 and request an internal transfer on the day.

I've just logged into my Skipton app  and tried to make my September payment into my Regular Saver via an internal payment today but it's still being rejected saying the payment isn't allowed.

Do you think it may have something to do with it being 4.30am UK .. give them a chance .. any payments that I have requested from Skipton have only ever been actioned in working hours on working days

If you want the marginally higher rates then a little patience may be the order of the day .. It is a relatively small building society after all

My SO to Skipton was scheduled for September 1 and it duly shows on my Santander 123 as an outgoing payment on September 1. On my Skipton account, it shows as a deposit made on August 31. As of yet, they haven't rejected it as a duplicate (first deposit made August 17) but they probably will. Looks like an issue with their systems, in that they think it's still August 31 until they come to work on September 1.........

  • My SO from Santander left 1/9 and has arrived safely into Skipton RS
