I just rang O2 and there are no discounts and they'll get rid of my £10 loyalty discount when I upgrade.

    It's "worse" than that.

You will lose the loyalty discount you currently have when your contract period is up even if you don't upgrade and decide to just carry on with your current tariff.

Sometimes I think that life is too short to worry about a £5 per month saving over 18 months. If you're happy with the service from O2, shut up and get on with it.
£90 is not an insignificant saving IMO. Relatively speaking, it works out at £60 a year. Would you renew your car insurance with your current insurer if it was £60 more expensive than a competitor? I know I wouldn't.

Worst is when you do upgrade, you lose your discount; get rubbish phone and deal( they call it fair policy) for higher price per month and you have to pay extra when you go over 500mb per month plus you lose 4 sms =1 MMS or 1 sms sent from abroad equals 4 from your quota.
Whatever happened to them, they were so generous not too
    long ago.

Is this definitely true in all instances?

When I have previously meant to upgrade, but left it a few more months because I've been too busy or forgotten etc, I have always still only been charged the lower amount, including any agreed discount. Indeed I'm pretty sure my contract now says 24 months, and a monthly price, but it doesn't say anything about that price increasing after 24 months, just that I'm 'tied in' for that period. If I do nothing when my contract expires in August, are you certain that my monthly fee will increase?

If you have a separate loyalty discount applied to your bill now (with o2), that is only for the life of the current contract, thus in cases llike that, then although the tariff remains the same at the end of your contracted period, you no longer get the loyalty discount so the net effect is your monthly charge increases by the amount of the removed loyalty discount.

If you sign in to my o2 and check the new beta website it shows the date your discount ends. My £15 per month discount on my £35 tariff ends on 15/11/2010. However my unlimited texts, unlimlited blackberry internet and my long weekends add ons have no end dates.

I just tried this, it says I'm not registered, then I realised that technically I'm a CarphoneWarehouse customer lol. If I'm billed by CPW, can I still register with My O2 to access this info, or will they not hold it?

UPDATE: Stupid O2 website. When I try to register, it says this phone number is already registered, but when I say I've forgotten my username / password, it says the website has no details of my account. Bah I'll do this another day lol.

No. If you get your bills from cpw then you are bound by their conditions which may be different to the o2 customers being discussed in this thread.

There is a cpw retentions thread here:

I wasnt bothered about the 4G and was happy with a 3GS, currently got the 8GB 3G.

Phoned up spoke to upgrades no room for negotiation offering me the same deal as a new customer, asked to cancel went through to retentions.

Got White Iphone 3GS 16GB, 300 Mins, Unlimited text + data being reduced to 500MB later in year. Free weekend calls to any mobiles and landlines excluding 0845 numbers, for £25 per month on an 18mth contract.

Yes its a refurbed handset but it comes with 12 months warranty. So i'm more than happy with that, could of had 600 mins for £30 but I don't use that many so...
