o2's phone lineup also seems to be worse than some networks, especially for high end phones

My wife said that I should ring up a few more times. If you have a lady on the other end of the phone, they'll likely do nothing for you. Also not to ring during normal work hours as those people are well trained to be stubborn.

    Hi all,

I'm sure that everyone is aware of the changes that O2 have implemented in the last month for contracts, namely:
    1) An extra £5 / month if you use web/data and also its capped.
    2) Removal of loyalty discounts (between £5-£10 / month) on average.

So, for someone on a £35 / month contract (600 minutes, 18 month) reduced to £25/£30 going upgrading, they are looking at at least a £10 / month increase.

Furthermore, O2 are giving us the spin that if you want the phone free or cheap or any other kind of reduction in monthly cost, 24 month is the way to go.

So overall, we're getting even less value. This is not to mention the fact that other network's retentions are still okay and negotiable.

Now, given that if you want to stay on the O2 network you can still take out either:
    1) Simplicity 12 month contract with £100 Quidco cashback.
    2) A GiffGaff SIM which currently has half-price top up deals.
    3) A Tesco Mobile PAYG SIM which triples the value of topups AND you can pay just £2 per week for unlimted browsing (although this might not be as good as Orange where so long as you top up £10 / month you get unlimted browsing).

I think I'm going to give up with O2 as I can't get a good deal and I am not going to go from £25/month to £40/month on an 18 month contract.

Hallo which pay and go tarrif from orange gives unlimited browsing as long as you top up 10 pounds i have never come across it is it new?

Its because their network is virtually at breaking point.

    It's on Dolphin:

Possibly not unlimited actually, but all the people I know on it are happy. Most of them use iPhones on it.

Hmm: "Please note free data usage on Dolphin capped at 100 megabytes per month". I'd have to cut down my iPhone use a bit with that tariff...

I think for me, I'll go Tesco mobile:
    http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=4

I'll top up £20 to get £60 credit. Then I'll activate the £2 / week unlimited web. That'll probably do me fine.

    Hello,

I've been a loyal customer to O2 for over 8 years. Every year I have upgraded I have always got the phone I wanted on the trarriff I wanted and ALWAYS had a reduction on the price, last contract I had £15 knocked off the monthly fee.

So, my new contract is up for renewal, I found the mobile I wanted - HTC Desire. My calls and texts are very low, averaging 20 mins & 20 text a month. I use my mobile mostly for internet.

I contacted o2 today (retentions dept) to find the best deal they could offer me, £45 per month (I can't remember the number of text or calls) unlimited wifi, unlimited internet (changing to 700mb limit in oct) and FREE handset.

I explained that I wanted an 18 month contract & free handset and they explained they could not give free handset on 18 month contract, handset would cost £52 & it would be £35 a month. They were not willing to go lower than £35 a month and they would not budge on the £52 for the handset. I have looked online and they are offering me their deals that they have online, they would not offer me any reduction for being a LOYAL customer?????

I explained i was not happy with what they were offering me and quoted better deals by t-mobile & orange and 02 said they could not match those deals???? I phoned up again giving them another chance to match other deals but again they would not budge!!!

    Grrrrrr, I'm really angry!

I dont want to go with another provider as 02 has the best coverage (I live in wales, some areas have poor or no coverage)

    ANY advice please????

I agree they are becoming not very competitive but in this case I think your expecting far too much. Your expecting them to give you a phone at a loss.

if your spending £15 a month over 24 months, they arn't even going to make back the cost of a HTC desire from you let alone make any profit.

You can get that phone for £20 with 300 mins Unlimited text and 500mb Internet for £30 a month on o2 from https://www.buymobilephones.net and go through https://www.quidco.com and you can get £25 cashback so the handset works out free.

o2 is becoming ridiculous full stop.
I rang up to cancel my contract 2 weeks in advance of its end date, to be sure they wouldn't automaticly put my on another.
The end date came and went without my simcard becoming inactive, I rang up the next day which they said "oh yeah we forgot to do it, or the person that spoke to you before didn't write it in your notes, the next time we can end your contact is in a months time sorry".
This happened twice. Which ment I had to pay two extra months of contract for a laugh
