  • hi all,

ok....lots of negotiation with o2 retentions and not got very far but after 30 mins got offered...
    (currently pay £35pm 750mins & 750texts)

    Nokia 5800 £30pm
    600 mins
    1000 texts
    unlimited internet
    unlimited w/e calls

Sounds ok but wondering if this is just bog standard....told them i was tempted by the orange offer of £25pm 600mins, unlimited texts, magic number but said they just can't match it....

Still tempted by the iphone £35pm deal but would get the interent with the 5800....

comments appreciated as i don't know what to do!!! xx

Quidco to date = £1224 cashback

well since 1st June O2 direct have not been offering very good retention deals. So I would say it is quite good on how thing stands at the moment. What they are doing now it seem is just give you an extra bolton.

for £25 (round up due to vat might go up after dec) 400 minutes / 1000 sms / unlimited o2 to 02 (like magic but can call more than one number.)
    £30 600 minutes / 1000 sms / unlimited 02 to 02

now you can add (yourself) my family bolt on 1 to 5 numbers will cost £7.50, you just pay that price, and all calls / sms between those 5 numbers are free. Between 6 to 10 can pay £12.50 to have those extra numbers included.

you can have the following bolt on to choose from (on the £30 tariff you can choose one by default and if speak to rentention they can add one of those as well FOC)

unlimited landline, unlimited sms, unlimited web, unlimited weekend (can call landline, o2, and cross network during the weekend at no charge), 200 minutes extra.

Now one way they can probably get close to Orange offer for you is this

£30 a month with 600 minutes, plus unlimited o2 to 02 calls, plus unlimited web

So the result is that it going to cost you £5 more but you will be able to call more than just "one numberr like you can with magic number." (with magic number you get to add other number every 6 months) and 1000 sms might not be unlimited but that is quite a lot ie if you dont send more than 30 message a day it is a mute point. Also with O2 mms = 4 sms with Orange it does come out of inclusive allowance.

Just thought I would share the conversation I had with Retentions minutes ago.

For a little bit of background - my contract expired recently and i've been mulling what to do. I currently pay £37.50pm for 600 xnetwork mins, 1,000 texts and a bit of mobile internet (cant remember exact allowance!) but my bill normally stretches to approx £55-65. Been with o2 for 6 years and always got good deals though upgrades, but wasnt holding out much hope, having read what I have recently on here!

I want to get either the Iphone 3G S or the N97 ideally, so today finally got round to calling Retentions about the iphone. They gave me the tariffs and phone costs etc., I asked about whether as a loyal o2 customer of many years I could get the handset price dropped at all, and they gave me the spiel that people on here had warned of about their fair deal policy, and how they treat new and existing iphone customers the same yada yada yada.

So when I said that I thought that would mean me departing o2 as I could get the N97 free on a similar tariff, and mentioned my pac code, he asked if i'd be willing to wait around til the end of the month, as they may be getting the N97!?!?!

He said he couldn't tell me now whether the handset was definitely being made available on o2, or if the handset would be offered free on some tariffs but to hold on until the end of the month!?

So in conclusion I have 2 questions

    1) Is there actually a chance o2 could get the N97 or is he running me around in circles to keep me on their network a little longer!?
    2) Does anyone have any idea what the likelihood of o2 reducing the handset charges for the iphone 3G S in the near future is, as that is my main stumbling block with the iphone?

    Many Thanks

They always say that and when the end of the month comes you will get '...oh! because so many people pre-ordered, we are out of stock' just kep you dangling. Ive been witht them for over 7 years and its been a downhill slide. See my other post about them cutting me off on holiday.

I was tired of O2 retention as they did not give me any deal. I was with O2 since 5 years..... finally got a 18 months deal with 3G. 25 pounds per month. Nokia E71. 500 min, unlimited text, unlimited internet, unlimited 3G to 3G and unlimited skype. Alright for time being....

Good going in voting with your wallet - that will hit O2 where it hurts.

I spoke to Retentions on Saturday and today. According to their records I've been with them for 9 years (joined when it was Genie).

I have been paying £30 for 400 mins, 1000 txts. Best I've been offered to date is the Nokia 6500 with 200 mins, 400 txts and unlimited O2 to O2 calls for £25pm, 18 mth contract. Unlimited internet would be an extra £7.50pm.

Afraid that hardly compares to what Three are offering, which is a Nokia 6700 with 200 mins, free internet, email and unlimited 3-to-3 calls and free Skype calls for £20pm, 18 mth contract! (plus cashback from Quidco)

PAC code now requested. It's going to be a shame to leave but there are just so many better deals out there than are currently being offered by O2!
  • Goodness, just rang o2 and as with the threads above, they didn't offer me anything! no alternatives or even deals to try and keep me on... even when I'm already paying £45 per month??? I'd like the Samsung Galaxy, but that's no closer....The Palm Pre isn't out till Christmas?? I mean who would want to buy a phone that's technically 6months old with a new version out round the corner?? Their range of handsets are just pap right now and the fact they've raised the price of alot of the handsets to make the iphone 3gs more appealing just sucks!...not to matter, the old Iphone 3g is defo heading to the other providers ;)

I don't know about you guys, but I'm either heading off back to T-mobile to get the HTC Hero (aka Tmobile G2 Touch) on a flext deal (at least this way 08 numbers and internationals are part of the allowance) or Orange to get the Toshiba TG01 (WinMo 6.5 OS is out soon anyways...) that they've offered free on £40 amonth (18months), 900mins, unlimited txts, unlimited internet, free broadband and magic number.

PAC code requested from 02. So remember folks, loyalty means naff all with these guys, just be the consumer !!!!! that we all need to be and just dont bother with retentions, just find a better deal online and go for that!

Thanks to all the previous post and p.s. if any of you guys have 3months left on your contract, you might want to look at getting a new contract with phones4u, got them to buy my missus out of her last 3 months in cash! (they can spend upto £150 on buying you out, accessories etc) and remember, even if you only have a month left? just say you have about 3 and see what you can barter out of them :)

    Good luck to you all!

In our household we have an O2 contract and a Vodafone contract with 4 lines on.

One of the lines on the Vodafone contract were up last week, and we got the Samsung Jet for £17.50 per month with 600 mins and unlimited txt on an 18 month contract. All 4 of my lines on Vodafone now are on the 600 mins unlimited txts. 2 of these lines are charged at £12.50 per month as when we upgraded the phones out were not that good! The other two lines are on £17.50 per month as these two lines had the Samsung Omnia and Jet.

Today my O2 line was due for upgrade. Rang the retentions department only to be offered £5 off any line rental. I nearly choked on my cup of tea. Basically they will give me 400 mins and 1000 txts for £25. Thats without discussing a new phone.

Needles to say I requested the PAC code, which has just come through and I am transferring to my Vodafone account which will take my total to 5 lines with Vodafone.

O2 spouted some Bullcrap about the recession. Dont they know that it isnt just businesses feeling the pinch???? I would go elsewhere, as this company doesnt seem to be doing much to keep their loyal customers.
