No No No, this recession thing is bullcrap. Its an opportunity for companies to jump on the band wagon to get more profits.
I am not buying it, simple as. If O2 cant do the deal that I want, but others can, then I am off regardless of their poor excuse.0 -
Its always going to be that new customers make a better profit for companies than existing ones (Or thats how they see it), Cant see that changing soon.0

Surely though, out of all of the mobile providers, o2 would be doing well at the moment... regardless of the recession? Up until now, they have had complete monoploy of the Iphone.. everybody who has an Iphone on contract is with o2 (and on an expensive tariff, too!) so they must have generated a huge customer base and huge incomes from the Iphone monopoly. And with the release of the Iphone 3gs, they are going to be absolutely rolling in it!
Maybe that's why they can afford to lose customers on bog standard tariffs? That's my view anyway!0 -
I think that they are consolidating their position within the mobile market and are chasing the high end users and businesses. What annoys me about O2 is that they have expanded the brand far more than their rivals- with concert venues and many more non comunications ventures.
I don't mind this if they don't use the line that they are struggling along and that they can't offer what they used to because of the recession. They clearly are not given their profits and outside interests. All I would ask is for a bit more of a uniform process with dealing with retentions, say a pound off monthly line rental for each year you have been with O2.0 -

Actually, it is quite possible that this is untrue, due to either commission paid or cost of the network's own shops.
It used to be that it made good sense to offer good retentions deals to reduce churn and new customer acquisition costs. O2 was a market leader in this not long ago, which makes this change of tack rather difficult to understand.0 -
I think many of us, including myself, who try to negotiate retention deals are price sensitive customers who place higher priority on saving money and getting a good deal (OK, that's stating the bloomin' obvious considering what forum this is
)
The point I would like to make is that any business would prefer a price insensitive customer with looser purse strings. The margins on these customers would be a lot better than with customers who had to be given discounts all the time.
Thanks to the interest in the iPhone people are flocking to O2 of their own accord, and even if they don't take Apple's product they might get sold something else in O2's stores (that home broadband's a good deal, among other things). If O2 are getting more demand for their services, they sure can afford to be more selective of customers, and might even be happy to see the back of people who constantly threaten to leave unless offered good deals.0 -
I cancelled my contract last week and on monday my sim card was disconnected with my number transferred to a PAYG (which i never plan on using). However, my direct debit for next month came out today? Will I definetly get that back soon or will I have to phone them up? I'm also meant to be recieving a refund for the rest of this month.0

100% agreed these Networks have been making money years un years in year out and all of a sudden they all in a "recession" BS,
What people dont understand is these networks have paid off the telecom equipment they use, so its just Maintenance and running overheads,
if a company makes £100 million year 1 PROFIT and makes £50 million year 2 PROFIT, they call that a loss, and then you hear people say "that companys doing bad"0 -

Unless 02 is evenement - don't know any network which is not under constant development.
And Operation & Maintenance is not "just" as it is really very expensive.
Having said that, we as a consumers do not need to care about it and have every right to take our business elsewhere.0
