It is comlpletely crazy, I have been with o2 for 9-odd years and spend on average £50/month - where are all the o2 guys and gals who used to post here? What is actually going on and is it worth hanging around for deals to return??

They could be fired / on holiday / hiding :-). But seriously they probably going through the stage that Orange went through when France Telecom brought them out. Cause at the time Orange stop doing offers to keep existing customers. They remove features (aka O2 changing bolt-ons to name just one.) And as other poster just said they got Iphone, but they are being short sighted (as usual) and they will probably change in the near future. With Orange it was the run up to Xmas it change when the churn was so bad they had to do something. I myself want a Sony Ericsson W995 and only thing that holding me back at the moment is cause my wife dad is in hospital and like now she had a phone call and have to go out to Italy again next week :-(. So dont want to mess around with the account until it is all settled. But when it is, I tell you if O2 thinking I will sign up to a £75 a month tariff for the phone they got other thing coming (I will transfer out to Vodafone than.)

O2 currently have the largest market share, so they can afford to lose a customer here and there and improve their margins a little. If they start to experience a churn level which could threaten their market leadership, like iceburn cited with Orange, then the retention deals might improve.

Where did you get that figure from????? Cause everywhere else are doing it free on nearly all tariff ranges and even CPW are doing it for free on a low end tariff. O2 themselves dont have the price guide, the reason why littlemissfugal got the phone is cause she spoke to retentions who have some phones allocated for themselves to "save customers."

I got that figure from o2's upgrade system as of Saturday afternoon. ;)

I understand that other companies are doing it cheaper but at the moment, that's the case for most/all of o2's handsets.

I am fully aware of how retentions works, but as of Saturday afternoon I don't understand how that deal was possible for her to get.

so if you are saying you work for O2 and hence check on the upgrade system than "WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON WITH O2." Cause that is actually the time I called, Sat afternoon to enquire about the W995 and they said they are expecting a delivery on Monday and not on the system yet a price. Even the O2 store I went to before said it been delay. This is when problems start, when one hand dont know what the other hand is doing :-(....

mmm to the other poster who said is it worth waiting, well from the sounds of it, the titantic is starting to sink now, so maybe worth get onto a life boat before it goes down :-). But seriously have a look at what you pay now, and see if you will pay less if you move and keep your service level up (both reception and customer service.) If the answer is yes, than I would say move. Maybe worth getting say get a T-Mobile pay as you go simcard and use it in your area to see how it is. (I know at least in the past pay as you go get lower priority than contract.) But if it is good than take a pun and sign up to a simonly deal, and if after a month happy, call T-Mobile and do an upgrade and do a PAC from O2.

The W995 should be price at a lower price level than the C905 so should be free on the £30+ line rental.

I have been told by retentions for the last two weeks that the w995 is only available for free on a £45 tariff.....so went to Orange via buymobilephones.net and got one for £29, 900 mins, 500 txts, unlimited landlines for 18 months.

Your deal for £25 is pretty good in the current cirumstances

It isn't officially released 'till Monday. It was showing on the system Saturday but still wasn't officially released.

Well after lots of flaffing around I am staying with o2. They've got the SE W995 in stock, still £35 a month (which is loads!) but I am getting unlimited texts (i used to go over my 300 a lot) and 600 anytime minutes, and managed to get them to agree to just 12 months (meaning I can still upgrade after 9). Sorted.

Again, this doesn't sound like o2 direct as they don't do 12 month contracts with handsets anymore?

Also I confirm with MRC that sound more like Carphone warehouse O2 offer. Cause I went there and it was £35 a month there. (for ppl who dont know O2 CPW and O2 from O2 store / other shops are different.) Called O2 today (nearly ask for my PAC today) and they still have not got the handset, and went to O2 shop and the manager there said it been on backorder but to get the handset for free it have to be £45 a month tariff. I was going to move to Vodafone for a C905 / N96 but I just found my temp phone so got the barred remove and can now wait for O2 to get the W995 at resonable price.
Anyway just look at the O2 website and what is going on where is N96/N97/N71 Sony Ericsson C905 / W705 etc. etc..
