I chose to cancel my sky by email which sky clearly say you can do on their site.
Since Sky have been promising "improvements" for many months now with regard this, it's of concern that nothing appears to have happened yet.
Personally though, if I wanted to cancel I'd want the immediacy of speaking to someone directly (even though I paid for the call)

By the way, when did you send your E-Mail? It was only the three days ago that you were asking advice about having both Sky AND Virgin. No mention of any E-Mail cancellation in that thread…

I sent my email on 14.1.14, I will edit my reply to provide an update.

I was grateful for the response on the thread I started. It helped me to know how to and what to look for.

I weighed things up and contacted VM and got a good deal from them, like yourself I prefer their broadband and wanted to keep my current email address.

As I had received advice from here, I just wanted to put my experience on here in answer to the question on this thread.

We are all different, I am happy to cancel by email, all that matters to me is that the necessary action is carried out. An email reply is also a good piece of evidence should anything go wrong, you cannot always trace a phone call even though they are recorded.

    JIL,

Once your last Sky payment has been made, cancel the direct debit. Because I (and many others) didn't and Sky continued to take money out of my bank acct for 4 months before I noticed. My own fault and I now never leave a defunct DD open for cancelled services. It took me 3 mths to get my money back too.
