Ok.

I have Virgin media which is broadband, phone and a TV in a bedroom. This costs on average £50 per month.
Downstairs I have sky at £60 per month. It includes sports and movies.
I know its a lot of money, but we dont go out to the pub much and I do get a small contribution from my sons board money towards the cost. But I want to cut the costs this year.
The OH would like BT sport.
I have phoned Virgin and didnt get anywhere, im not a new customer. (it crossed my mind to cancel everything and then phone up and put everything in my name instead of OH,to get the new customer deals)

I would like, a home phone, broadband, and 2 TVs, one with Some sports channels and some movies.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

As far as I know, new customer status is based on address not name so you may struggle if your current address is already active.

Anyone who spends £1320 a year on TV phone and broadband is in need of help.

As a start why not get all your services from one provider.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Having both Sky and Virgin is madness. You're basically paying a whole extra subscription for just a few different channels.

My approach would be to phone up both of them and basically tell them that you have both Virgin and Sky and you're going to cancel one, whoever gives you the best deal wins.

You'll be surprised at how they fall over themselves as soon as you mention cancellation.

Don't waste time haggling with the normal customer service reps, go straight to the cancellation ones as they can offer you a lot more.

Probably the highest annual spend I've ever seen quoted on here. As above, why both cable and satellite-it's just paying twice for a similar service?

multi room deal from either would surely save money. Im paying a similar amount to Virgin and that covers an upstairs and a downstairs box.

I have Virgin for broadband and telephony, but I get my TV from Sky (with Multi-Screen). It doesn't cost anywhere near what the Op is paying and I get the superior channel choice offered by Sky and the superior broadband from Virgin.
OP either needs to get everything from one provider, or get a similar set up to mine. Both options would save the OP a packet with very little loss of service.

Does your price include Sky Sports and Movies though?

This is a £30+ per month charge.

    OP look at this thread...

Work your way through and get the tips you need, call virgin again and follow what we've done on that thread. They'll call you back and do a deal - DO NOT take any offer from those you call. when they call you back get a second box installed FOC - you'll get BT SPORT on Virgin with XL.

I did the exact same SKY/Virgin split last year, due to the Sky 50% off code it worked out cheaper to go two suppliers versus one. I went back to Virgin last month, for an price I was more than happy with.

If you go Virgin you will pay less for a multiroom SS/Sky Movies premium channel set on both boxes. The BT Sport deal on Virgin saves you £180 a year over the cost of HD BT sport on Sky.

Thank you for all your replies even the harsh ones.

i have read the thread on VM retention and hope I will be ditching Sky and going with VM. We will be looking at just BT sport and using Netflix for movies and hope to halve our costs. Ive researched similar packages from Sky and VM and will make my calls in the morning.

    Thank you again.

I am editing to say I contacted Sky by email to cancel. And following a discussion, the following evening, with VM got a free box, £30 off my next bill and a reduction of £5 off my bill for 6 months..

So thank you for all your help.

Yes, but I'm also prepared to pay (some) extra for the HD channel choice available only via Sky.
I do prefer Virgin's broadband service, however.

Can't argue with that, but then I don't subscribe to BT Sport!
