  • Also, sorry. Do I need to open a resolution even though he has emailed me ( not through eBay) to say he'll refund? Any help appreciated as I've never had to do this before.

Yes - I would - because he might make some excuse when he gets it back not to refund, and he sounds like the sort of seller that really gives eBay a bad name.

Your main gripe is that the capacity of the hard drive was not as advertised anyway, so make sure you mention this in the dispute.

  • Make sure from now on all correspondence is through eBay. They don't look at emails in order to resolve issues. As for the damage it doesn't really matter who caused it because you're getting a refund either way. eBay should give you clear instructions in the resolution centre letting you know what to do and when.

And for the record yes you can send images via eBay messaging now in case anyone wants to know for future reference.

Please could you explain how, so people have it on record.

Good luck, OP. Contest this, escalate if the seller fails to give you satisfaction, but stick to your guns over the capacity of it - otherwise they might claim that the damage is only slight or you caused it yourself. They can't dispute the capacity as much as they can any damage.

Well, this is the latest update.
    Paypal don't have his address.
Ebay won't give me his address.
He has sent me a quite abusive email (via ebay) contesting the damage and has said he will refund me on receipt of the goods when they are 'sent back in the condition he sent it'
    He's actually being quite obnoxious.
Now i'm in an awkward situation and i'm not too sure what to do.
I can't send it back as i haven't got an address to send it to!
Any ideas what i do next?
I've been in tears over his email which i know i can't post on here but he's very rude :(

Well yay, i found the parcel force label from the package and he has put his return address at the bottom :) i'll call ebay tomorrow to confirm the address.
I am going to send it tracked.
I have read that i then need to upload the 'tracking' document thing to ebay. How do i do this?

Is is possible that Ebay will supply you with an address first and then authorize you to send it back? Can you try to speak to someone at Ebay to help you with this?

Did you pay with a credit card? Is there anyway you could do a chargeback through the credit card company?

Try not to get too upset. I'm sure you'll get the refund eventually.

Hopefully someone who knows lots about this stuff will be along shortly to help

He sounds a !!!!!!, so definitely send it back tracked! You can request his contact details from Ebay, and they should be able to confirm the return address.

If he doesn't refund your return postage, then you can always leave feedback to reflect this... (Although don't mention fb in the dispute).

Have you put in the dispute that you'd like the seller to pay return postage, given he admits it being the wrong item?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Hi, thanks for replying :o He has agreed to refund the postage.
I'll call ebay again tomorrow and see if they can verify the address he put on the front of the package.
The words he used are 'this stinks of a scam'
    :(

    Yeh from him maybe.....
