This is ridiculous ... Royal Mail STILL haven't listed my letter as delivered!

I'm wondering if I should just send it via SPECIAL delivery instead.

Can I confirm with everyone else: Have you all received replies to the Opus House complaints address?

There is a postal strike at the mo. There are no guaranteed delivery times with any Royal mail Service other than Special Delivery, and an item is not considered as lost until 15 days have passed If your claim is lost, you will only get the cost of your postage stamps as compensation.

In the current strike, even Special Delivery normal promises have been suspended.

However, if you visit your PO and ask about SD, the postmaster will advise you of a guaranteed delivery date. This date will be written on the back of your SD tear-off receipt, even in current strike conditions. If you ask to pay extra for "Consequential loss insurance", this will cost £1.35, and compensate for any consequential loss up to £1000, eg loss of cashback claim.

    In summary:

Recorded Delivery No guarantees, no signature guarantees, high chance of being lost, no compensation, no personal signature required (as specified in many cashback schemes)

Special Delivery with Consequential Loss Insurance (£5.65):
100% guaranteed and insured, personal signature image free online after about 24 hours. the only way you can lose out is if the contents of the envelope are disputed.

If I were running a cashback scheme, I would advise you to send by recorded delivery, for your own protection.

    Got the picture?

Same position as yourself. I am going to give it another week before I do anything.

    Yes we get the picture.

Problem is the scam is to allege that a page(s) of a bill is missing form the envelope when it arrives. Very cheap and nasty scam which Special Delivery will not stop. The only way to stop it is to complain in numbers and then go to Court.

Yes, circumstantial evidence will help. Maybe one day we will see someone posting a claim witnessed by the BBC Watchdog team, as a couple of people have written to Watchdog it seems.

My solution will probably be to use signed witnesses, weigh the envelope etc to prove the number of sheets, possibly even video the event. I have a friend who bought a phone around the same time, so we may witness each other's post.

    Actually, here's an idea:
    Witness Statement

I [witness name] hereby state that on this day, [date] at [time] I witnessed [claimant's name] placing [number, eg "two"] documents into an envelope with a special delivery label attached bearing the number [SD ref. no.]

I have listed these documents as a schedule to this statement. I have examined and signed each page of these copy documents, thus certifying to be true likenesses of the originals enclosed in the envelope.

I have sealed the envelope with the all of the Scheduled documents enclosed, and placed my signature across the seal of the envelope, together with the date.

    Schedule:
    1. Cashback Claim Form, consisting of one single sided sheet
    2. Mobile phone bill dated [date of bill] consisting of [number, eg. "six"] double sided sheets ([number, eg. "eleven"] printed pages in total).
      • Signature of witness:______ Date:_____

        Name and Address of Witness:

        Signature of claimant:______ Date:_____

        Name and Address of Claimant:

Attach copies of the documents the witness signs to the one page witness statement and schedule.

On the reverse of the envelope the witness writes:
"I [name] certify that I have witnessed the contents of this envelope and firmly sealed it with the said contents enclosed, dated [date]

Signature of witness to be across seal, indicating that it was sealed when he signed. Copy both sides of the sealed envelope, take the sealed envelope to the post office, keep a copy of the PO receipt showing weight, and Special Delivery slip. For a belt and braces solution, take out consequential loss insurance at the time of posting.

I think that should be pretty watertight. The signature on the reverse of the letter should also help them realise that you mean business.

PS, I think I will also write on the back of my envelope "NOTE TO RECIPIENT: IN THE EVENT THAT THE CONTENTS OF THIS ENVELOPE ARE DISPUTED, PLEASE RETAIN THIS ENVELOPE AS EVIDENCE"
    3. mouseclick - re the cheque number.

Sorry, I cashed it about 12 seconds after I opened the envelope! All my cheques have been handwritten, by the same person.

On another note, I just sent some paperwork into mobilephonesontheweb regarding another claim, so I will let you know when that was delivered. I posted it on Thursday afternoon.

      Best wishes,

I think a knowledge of cheque numbers would be useful for all cashback claimants. Maybe good idea for people to post them somewhere? Obviously company cheques are written for many things, however if cheque no 001 on sort code xx-xx-xx was written on 1 July, and cheque no 100 was written on 1 Aug, it does perhaps give some indication of how many cashback claims a company has paid out by cheque, not sure what others think. Shouldn't have to go through all this grief really I know, but such snippets of information may come in handy some day.

Individuals can monitor the cheque numbers issued to them only for each periodic claim, even if they don't share.

This is ridiculous ... Royal Mail STILL haven't listed my letter as delivered!

I rang Royal Mail yesterday and asked them whether my letter has been delivered? He checked it on his system and told me that it has been delivered and signed. He also said that he will email me the proof of signature as well which I have not received and I will chase that up now with Royal Mail. I also rang Consumers Direct and they have said that I should write another letter now which will be a reminder letter and allow 7-10 days only for the 2nd letter. The 2nd letter is just to give them one more warning to cover my back. Has any one else has any more updates on their claim and did CNM respond to any earlier letter sent?
