an auomatic redialer reconnets you to the internet as soon as you lose the connection
  • It's a program that you can set up to dial your connection multiple times automatically. Very handy if you get repeated engaged tones when dialling up. Instead of hitting connect repeatedly, (it can get tedious on some ISPs at busy times) you press connect once and the dialler does the rest. It also reconnects you if your connection drops. However Fast4 don't let you use them and will close accounts if they suspect they are being used. You can set up Windows to redial but I'm not sure if Fast4 allow that either. Probably not worth the risk.

We have been with them since 3 January, all ok, I sent them an e mail, but also rang their customer support regarding an e mail they sent to me saying they would deduct £6.99 on 24 January. Of course it was not due until 3 February, they apologised and will not charge again until 3 Feb. I checked with my credit card and all ok. Thanks to others on this thread for all the advice they gave.

It was a pleasant surprise to get through to the customer support so quickly, when I was with Claranet, although an excellent company, you had to queue for ages to be dealt with.

So we are very pleased with Fast4 so far!! Also it was easy to set up.

    Hope this helps, regards oap

    Hi

As I am too far away from my local exchange to get BB, I've opted for a one-way satellite DSL service from skyDSL.

This basically means that my data is received from the internet by the skyDSL dish, but uploaded data and webpage requests, etc go via my ISP dial-up account.

To reduce the cost I'm trying to source a dial-up ISP as cheaply as possible. I'm currently with Tiscali and pay £9.99/month for 50 hours. I occasionaly go over this and have to pay more and now that I've got a faster, more usable connection I expect that this will happen more often.

Some of you seem to have been with Fast4 for some time. Do you think that they would be suitable for my needs, knowing their limitations?

If so, I would downgrade my Tiscali account to a PAYG to retain my email address, but I suspect that they would not allow me to re-upgrade again at £9.99, as this is an old tarriff!!! :o

Or the alternative would be to use a service such as GMail (Googlemail?) I suppose.

Many thanks in anticipation of your help and advice. :A

Hi, I am sure someone on here more knowledgeable than me will answer your question, however, you could always ring Fast 4, their sales line (free) is somewhere on this thread I think, if not, customer service is 0870-442-9600

If you have a query on your account, you can save the cost of telephoning Fast 4, by going on their website : https://www.fast4.net . Then click on 'members' , then log in to members services, go to 'contact us' and send them a message. That way it does not cost you anything. You use the same details as the log in to obtain the dial-up service.
