Hi As I am too far away from my local exchange to get BB, I've opted for a one-way satellite DSL service from skyDSL. This basically means that my data is received from the internet by the skyDSL dish, but uploaded data and webpage requests, etc go via my ISP dial-up account.
To reduce the cost I'm trying to source a dial-up ISP as cheaply as possible. I'm currently with Tiscali and pay £9.99/month for 50 hours. I occasionaly go over this and have to pay more and now that I've got a faster, more usable connection I expect that this will happen more often. Some of you seem to have been with Fast4 for some time. Do you think that they would be suitable for my needs, knowing their limitations? :A
If you have a BT line, connecting to Fast 4 won't be a problem, but whether it is suitable for your needs, is really up to you. Obviously downloading with a dial-up ISP is slower than BB and if you overuse the service Fast 4 will bump you off. If you read through this thread, it will give you more of an idea. Regarding e-mail, I use Gmail (googl;e) all the time now, it is a very good service, completely free and no problems if you change your ISP. If you need a gmail account, send me a PM and I will send you an invite by e-mail. This is the only way of doing it.

Thought I would resurrect this thread as there are so many new posts, it quickly diappears! As there are about 4 new threads asking questions about Fast4, and most of these queries can be answered by reading through these posts, thought it might help.
Still excellent service at time of posting !!

My switch over from Tiscali went OK. I've retained them on a PAYG basis for the moment, just so I can keep my old email address for a while.

As for the dial-up service I'm getting from Fast4, well its just as good as that from Tiscali, but a lot cheaper. No faults at all so far!! :money:

F4 was down for an hour or so this afternoon with a dial-up problem but they kept their customers fully informed with the following message in the members area:

    Freephone dialup problem
A fault has been reported to BT regarding problems with dialup customers connecting to the free phone 0808 subscription number; this fault means that customers hear a continuous tone upon the attempt to connect rather than the standard dialup 'fax' tones. As we hear more from BT we will update the System Status line (0870 225 1211) with further details. If you have any other issues please contact Technical Support.

So that was the reason !! As Fast 4 has been trouble-free of late, with instant connection at all times, I just assumed there was something wrong with my equipment and spent 10 minutes or so checking all the connections. Then when I tried again got connected straight away, so was under the impression that I had corrected the fault myself !!!
Well done Fast 4. !! Did Pingy go with E7Uneven ???

How can F4 ever be beaten at £6-99 a month unlimited.
It would cost you more a month for the weekend papers.

For all you newbies and those looking for a cheaper dial-up, you should give https://www.fast4.net a try. £6.99 per month unlimited. Min. 3-month contract. No problems whatsoever these days! If you are thinking of a change, read through this thread for some good tips.

  • Unless you use the Internet a lot of course, in which case you should avoid them.

I wouldn't touch them with someone else's bargepole.

If you haven't tried them, how do you know?

I'm perfectly satisfied with their service etc and I'm speaking as one of their customers!
