has anyone got dial up acess with FAST4.NET as i am currently with BT and fast4 lookks like a cheaper option at £6.99 per month UNLIMITED

    i would appreciate any feedback

also can i change my bt email address to fast4

    Regards
  • We had this service last year - we used fast4 for quite a number of years - generally without any trouble.

    The only negatives were:

    1. Peak periods were often busy and you could not login (I'm sure this has changed with availabilty of broadband services)

    2. There was an unusual cancelation "rigmarole" to go through. You had to write to them to say you wanted to cancel (or fax them) and then they wrote back and you had to re-confirm that you wanted to cancel via mail again.
By the time this happened you were generally paying for the next month of service which was a dubious practice in my estimation.
  • I am going to merge this thread with the Fast4 Diary, an ongoing thread regarding connections and signing with this ISP icon7.gif

Ignore all the unlimited claims on their website. It isn't. However if you make low to medium use of the Internet it should be ok. Don't use any autodial software either or they will cut you off for unattended use even though it may not be.

You can't change your BT email to Fast4 email but Fast4 will give you a new address. You can also change you BT account to PAYG and keep the old email address if you wish or just cancel it totally and use the new Fast4 one instead.

If you read back on this FAST4 DIARY you will see that there are a lot of regular users of tthis ISP. They used to be cheap but difficult to get on in the evenings, but now that is all in the past. With users moving to BB it has meant the service has improved and now I have no trouble with connecting at any time, and it has been like this for months. 2 things you need to watch. They have a habit of creeping your payment date forward so keep an eye on that (they always correct it). 2nd make sure your payment is by Direct Debit on your bank, so if you want to move, you can stop the DD after having given the requisite notice by recorded delivery. (You can't do this with a Credit Card.)
Regarding your e-mail address, if you send me a Private Message with your current e-mail address, I will send you an invite for GMail. This is Google's completely free service which you can take with you to any ISP you choose, so no need to change e-mail address again. It still comes through Outlook Express etc. just like your normal ISP e-mail, but in addition you get 2 Gb of storage with Google, which is massive.
PS. This applies to anyone else who wants a GMail address as well !! Just send me a PM.

I think you will find that you get 168 hours per week, not per month. This equates to 24 hours per day 7 days per week, which is unlimited. However if you tried to use all of this time (which would be impossible as there is a 2 hour cut-off and re-dial) you would soon find that your account was terminated. This dial-up ISP is mainly for casual users, they are happy with 3 or 4 hours per day and I for one wouldn't want to spend any more time than that. Usually I use about 2 hours, for e-mails, EBay and some browsing on sites like MSE and price comparisons etc. As somebody has pointed out, if you use an automatic dialler, this too would cause you to be bumped.
