  • I have also been with Fast 4 for some time now - first dial-up then changed to broadband 512k about a year ago and more recently updated to the 2M/2G offering (which reduced my monthly charge from £16.99 to £9.98!).

I also use 18866 and other operators (eg 18185 etc) and am happy to use FreeTalk as my CPS carrier - I make very few calls via them but it saves me £2pm.

There is a problem with news groups at present but generally Fast 4/V21 are pretty good - at the price, you can't complain!
  • oap, can I just suggest that you also sign up for https://www.call1899.co.uk, sister company to 18866 as the connection charge for 1899 is only 3p compared to 18866 at 4p
  • Hi all,

    Hi the loft and alared

Hey, the loft, you forgot to include me in your list of longstanding Fast 4 users!

Anyway, I have not had any major connection issues for many months now. I am a very happy customer.

    Very happy indeed

Happy New Year to you all, especially the loft and alared.

Does the e mail notification work for you guys.

The only reason that I ask is because even though I am subscribed to the F4 threads, it is only rarely that I get an e mail when someone posts.
In fact, e mail notification has always been a problem, right from the day I joined.

    C'est la vie

Hi, thank you very much for your reply, now I am wondering, after looking at the fast 4 website whether to go broadband, I presume it is 24/7 for £9.98 a month, I pay £9.99 a month to my isp at present for dial up, just 6pm to 2am and all weekend, do you know if I need to buy anything to go broadband with fast 4? or do they provide it. I am on BT together phone line.Thank you, oap
oap ---You have been advised that the low rate is only if you take their telephone freetalk as well. In additon you are locked in for 1 year! You have to supply the broadband modem and filters (or pay Fast 4 inflated prices.) There is also a connection charge (£47 I think). None of this applies if you use the dial-up service, so think long and hard before committing to BB with Fast 4.

Hi! Leo and how nice to hear from you!. I didn't include you as you had not posted a reply to oap, and alared had. But you are always in our thoughts !! Glad to know you are still a Fast 4'er. On the e-mail front, you will only get a notification if someone posts, and as you can see, before oap, there was quite a lull. Happy New Year to you and yours, same to Alared and all Fast 4 users ! (I WILL BE CHANGING TO BB ONE DAY !!!).

  • Like any supplier, Fast 4 does not want to lose existing customers. So when/if you want to upgrade to BB, talk to the Fast 4 sales team (0800 089 0076) and you may well find they will upgrade you for free - especially if you tell them you are looking at other ISPs etc. That's what happened to me...

    Happy New Year

OAP, whilst I have no intention of leaving F4, if I did decide on BB,I would certainly look at https://www.e7even.co.uk

Oh many many thanks to you all, very helpful indeed, well I think then I shall go for the dial up and as you say, eventually, go to broadband, I do not do the news thing and am not on the internet for hours and hours, and I do not download any music etc, so maybe the dial up is for me at present, I was not sure how much it would cost to get a modem and it is £47 to get a broadband connection from BT. I have just had a new modem as a big flash of lightning before Christmas took out my modem and some ofmy neighbours modems as well. Best wishes to you all for New Year will let you know how I get on. I take it dial up is £6.99 and you do not have to sign up for the free talk? cheers, oap (old age pensioner!!)

Hi, can anyone tell me please if £9.98 (or £11.98) for fast 4 bb is permanent and not just for two months, then it goes up, thank you
  • Permanent at the moment - ie unless they decide to change it. No sign of that happening at present but who can say... although, if anything, broadband rates are tending to come down rather than go up.
