Advice needed - unmetered charges
I purchased a house about 18 months ago. The first 3 months, the house was unoccupied whilst it was being refurbished. I then moved in and I am a single person living alone with my daughter staying over every second weekend. With so much on, I failed to realise that I was paying over £120 month for water! Whenever I saw…

Switched to direct debit monthly :(
We were paying for our water quarterly but since we moved in June it took 6 months for our first bill to come which was £204. That works out to £34 month which isn't too bad but could be less. So I decided to switch to direct debit monthly but they want to charge us £73 per month! How is that justified? That's more than my…

Just moved into new flat....
Hi All, I completed on my new flat on Friday and have just been doing all the admin type things today, i.e. letting management company and utilities know that I am the new leaseholder in the flat. I found all the details in the conveyancing paperwork my solicitor sent me. However I went to register on the Thames Water…

STWA won't accept complaints by email?
I want to make a complaint to Severn Trent about billing, but here it just gives a number to ring them. I want this to be counted as a complaint, instead of leaving that aspect to the discretion of the CA answering the phone.

Water meter problems
I know this sounds really stupid, but I am literally stuck and don't know what to do! I have just bought my first flat, got the keys 5 days ago and there are 4 in the block, so firstly, I'm not 100% sure on which one is mine because they're not numbered, and also the one I think it would be has 3 MASSIVE spiders in there…

Paying too much?
Hey, I'm a student who lives in a 8 bedroom house with 7 other people in brighton. The property is unmetered and the supplier is southernwaters. We currently pay 12.85 a month each, so 102.80 a month total. I feel like this is a lot to pay for, as its well above the average, but I'm new to this. Will be grateful for…

Just bought first house - how does metered water get billed
Hi, This may sound really obvious but I have had no prior experience with water suppliers. We moved in to the house last Friday & called up to give the meter readings and inform them of our details. At this time I was set up with an online account but no payment plan was set up. The water is on a meter and I believe billed…

Am I paying too much for my water?
I just worked out I pay £517.08 per year for my water, and I'm one person in an ex-council London flat with a part-time tenant. Does this sound right? It seems like a lot. I don't have a meter so it's an assessed charge I suppose. Any tips on finding out if I could be paying less? (I can't get a meter.)

Megaflo must be totally vertical
Megaflo is a nightmare! After six years of living with a Megaflo, which never worked properly, a few words from a guy who KNOWs solved it! The ground the cylinder we installed it on was a little slopy, so we put in a little padding to make it level: or so we thought! When you heat hot water using a boiler, the water…

Do you want to be able to choose your water company?
At the moment the water sector is a monopoly – who we get our water from is decided by where we live, not who we choose. The government is thinking about changing that and introducing choice and competition in England and is asking Ofwat, the water regulator, to look at the costs and benefits of doing so. At Ofwat, we…

Typical water usage
Being non-metered myself, I was at a loss to explain to a mate how much water he might use in his new property, so I suggested he read the meter and then read it again 24 hours later to get an initial rough estimate. His readings: 00066760, then 24 hrs later 00066968. I asked how many, if any, of the rightmost digits were…
