Alliance & Leicester Online Saver 4
To all those who have opened this account, how long did it take to receive your Customer ID and PIN? I've been waiting 3 weeks now. Admittedly they told me on the phone that it takes up to the 3 weeks but I wanted to see if this is really true in other people's experience.

Barclays 6% savings
I've got one of the Barclays 6% regular savings accounts, and I think at the end of the year (Feb 2010) it turns into an ISA. I've already got an ISA with another bank and I'd like to know how I can get hold of the money in Barclays without paying tax on my savings and ultimately losing most of the interest I've gained? I…

NatWest in 'MoneySense' shocker...
(Full article: http://www.moneymarketing.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=179530&d=pnd2&h=pndh2&f=pndf2 ) Is anyone really surprised? I find the NatWest 'MoneySense' concept a little nauseating, to be honest. I think a recent survey of the major banks in the UK found that 100% were planning to offer "full advice" within three…

Recovery Funds - Primed for growth, or just a good name?
Sorry for the longish post, I've been looking into recovery funds a bit and if they are worth it. Whilst green shoots may not yet be upon us, talk of there arrival has been increasing and the buzz around "recovery" funds has been growing. These are funds which are designed to take advantage of the recovery of the markets…

Can I transfer to a new ISA?
I have an ISA that is not paying much interest that I took out last year 08/09. I now would like to transfer the money to a new better ISA for this year 09/10. However I have already taken up my £3600 allowance for this year with a separate ISA. Would transferring my existing last years ISA to a new one of the same value…

New to Saving with ING direct
I opened an account with ING direct in March ready for receiving an inheritance. From memory it was advertised at 2.85%, with 1.49% being the introductory bonus, and the rest being variable. My first letter from them announced an overall reduction to 2.49%, and I received a letter this morning announcing a further…

Cheshire BS 3 yr fixed bond: check the small print!
I went in today to open a Cheshire Building Society 3yr fixed rate bond in trust for my godson. Unfortunayely, the annual (or monthly) interest cannot be compounded and has to be paid to either another Cheshire account or an external account and cannot be credited back to the bond. So I'm off to the Derbyshire tomorrow to…

Wal Mart Shares
Hi My 3 year share save scheme is due to mature very shortly and I'm wondering what are the pitfalls if I were to take advantage of buying the wal mart shares and hanging onto them for a few years for them to hopefully gain more value. The only ones I can think of are: a) fluctuating exchange rate. b) price of shares…

Abbey Annual Investment Statements - OMG!
We have just come back from a few days away and have opened up the Annual Investment Statements from Abbey for all members of the family. Share advice please
Can anybody advise me? I have some shares in a company which I would like to cash in. I am holding onto them for a little longer because I believe this company may be the target of a take over bid. reccommend me a large-value, short-term, savings account or better idea?
 ...obviously I mean 'recommend'. Apologies for x-posting - I have also posted a longer version of this (with justification/backstory) in the 'house buying and selling' section. Basically we've sold our flat before finding a new place and we're renting with friends. This means we will soon have the excess money…

Savings Idea
Ive been thinking of different ways in which I can put a bit of money aside, nothing too serious, not worried about interest rates but I do want it to go somewhere safe. A friend of mine uses a fruit machine, picked it up cheap and he plays it regularly in his spare bedroom, I thought this would be a good idea, treating it…
