Dirt / barrier door mats for paws
Hello, Please could I have some recommendations for door mats? I am looking for the barrier / dirt trapper type mat to soak up some muddy wet paws. The park was really wet this morning after yesterdays rain, and although we are in a paw cleaning routine after a walk - it would be great if we can get some of it off in the…

Nothing to eat pre-op
My kittens are off to the vets to be spayed on Monday morning. I was told when I booked them in that they should have 'nothing' from 8pm the night before (their appointment is 9am). However I'm now wondering if that just means nothing to eat, or nothing to drink either?

First time pet owner
Hi I just recently took in a dog the problem is that this is the first time I had pet and that I'm living in a farflung town so there are no vets around so I can't have her checked out and what breed he is. I'm currently feeding him some of my food and for his exercise I have a small backyard for him to run in. What do you…

Petplan - what to claim for?
Apologies for my ignorance but I'm new to pet insurance and claiming on insurance in general. Had to pay £172 for an emergency vet appointment for our cat and they seemed to imply that we can claim back. I don't know what the excess is, whether it will increase next year's premium, is there a general minimum to claim etc.…

Words of Wisdom for a new Sprollie Owner
Hi Folks My sister just got a baby sprollie (springer x collie) - he's really cute - but sure to be a bit of a handful! I've known Springers and Collies before but never even heard about a sprollie until she got one , seems to me that they could be a bit of a handful - bouncy, greedy and intense ;/ but hopefully more…

New hamster
Hey! I just need some advice about my new Syrian hamster. I bought him on Monday (I know, not long ago!) but he appears to be terrified of me! If he's awake and I'm around he just stands, stares and appears to be vibrating when he looks at me. Me and my partner have tried to make him feel comfortable offering him treats…

Just a grumpy dog ?
My crossbreed terrier has always barked when people come to the door or something comes through the letterbox , increasingly he's finding other things to bark at like whistling on adverts , the early morning birds twittering and at 1-45 am today a cat outside ! These are all things he's never had issues with before. Is he…

Costly pet insurance (cats)?
Hi everyone, I am looking, seriously, at how much I am currently paying in pet insurance for my two cats. My almost 9 year old Birman has 'covered for life' with PP - I have claimed once on it for dental work and some tests required, came to around £400. Otherwise, she is pretty healthy, has had 2 x bouts of cystitis but…

Multiple claims for one condition
We have had a couple of vet bills over the past couple of days for our cat and our vet informed us that they can be submitted as one claim, presumably only incurring one excess. The first one was an out of hours emergency vet and the second was our regular vet - we have two invoices and claim forms because the vet needs to…

Do cats become friendlier?
We have had Arthur 12 weeks now and he's still as standoffish as ever He's 6 months old now and he will still scrab me out of the blue. Last night for example he was perched on the back of the sofa behind my head which is his preferred spot, when out comes the paw and claws and he's attached to my ear drawing blood Earlier…

Dog Aggression Problem
Little bit of an odd one. My parents have two dogs, total opposites. One is an extremely placid terrier - just wants to sit on you lap and sleep. Does nothing terrier like. Doesn't chase anything, doesn't dig, plods around. Almost acts like an old dog, despite being under 5. The other is about a year younger and the exact…

Has anyone used ear powder to cleanse and stop scratching?
My dog doesn't like his ears being examined, or liquid being squirted down them, so much so, the vets can't examine him or apply the treatment. I sometimes try it when he's scratching them, but he's always ready and jerks away then flaps his head violently. Offering him food makes it worse since he guesses what is to come.…

Will an Inflatable Buster Collar Stop a Dog Scratching & Licking - thoughts /advice?
Hi all :) Very long time no post, hope everyone is doing OK. My dog is having a really bad spell with licking and scratching her front "armpits", and seems to be stuck in an itch scratch cycle, so probably making it worse herself. I'm considering buying one of these to make her wear in the house for a while, to see if it…

Cattery won't allow cancellation
Hi all, My mother who is in her 80's booked her cat into a cattery on the 31st of August, she has tried to cancel today (the holiday starts on the 11th of August). They have told her she cannot cancel and will still have to pay the full price. I have had a look on their web site and there is no information on cancellations…

Suggestions on where to bulk-buy catfood/litter?
Hi everyone - we have 12 cats (added 3 this week) and I'm figuring out what we need monthly in terms of supplies. Currently we're looking at (for a typical 31 day month): 186 x 390 or 400g tins of Whiskas chunks in jelly (could consider Felix as an alternative) 9 x 3kg bags Purina One Sensitive 124 x pouches of Felix…

getting rid of mice when you have pets?
anyone had to get rid of mice while they had other pets? I've tried all the usual non poison things and they still keep coming back and so it is looking like we might have to put bait down :( or we're going to have a major problem Now I can put it where I know our puppy can't get at it directly but worried that he may pick…

Cat with heart murmur??
Hi all - new to the forum and just putting a question out there.. has anyone had a cat diagnosed with a heart murmur? We've been told our much loved boy has a "severe" murmur, as part of his annual vaccinations and health check up, and the vet is concerned enough to send him for an ECG (waiting on the referral atm).. I…
