Dog Hip Replacement - cost and shopping around?
Hi all I didnt know where to post this so family seemed like the best place. Our 2 year old springer poodle needs a hip replacement operation and I was hoping for advice from people who may have been through the same thing. We have been quoted by (our very good) vet £4,500. Our insurance covers upto £2000 a year so we will…

Bleeding Cat
Hello all, Please help. I was stood outside in the back yard this morning and saw a white cat laid out near the car. His foot / leg / paw was bright red like it was bleeding. It was walking really slowly like he was in pain. Anyway he climbed the wall and jumped off so I thought nothing of it. I went to the shops exiting…

Dog skin problems - yoghurt.
Hope this helps someone. Our remaining Westie aged 17 this year has had skin problems for the last few years. We have had to bathe her with Malaseb shampoo on prescription from the vet on an almost continual basis. Getting fed up with this and not liking to be using this all the time as it is a poison, I came across…

Cat Fleas and Daughters Toys and Clothes
Hi, wondered if someone could help me: Had a flea problem with our cat that's infested the house. We've so far treated the flat with a pet bomb, the cats been treated with flea and working tablets from the vets and we've steam cleaned both mattresses. We've washed most clothes and the bedding at 60 degrees but I'm not sure…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I pay for the iPad my dog broke?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... My neighbours looked after my dog while I was away for a few days. During that time, he knocked their iPad off a chair, causing the screen to break. Should I offer to pay for it to be repaired? Unfortunately the MSE team can't always answer money moral dilemma questions as…

Cat fight
i would welcome some views/advice from other MSE/cat owners. I've been on holiday, went round to my parents yesterday to be told that a week ago a woman turned up at their door shouting and swearing at my 80 year old mother that one of their cats (they have two snowy bengals) had attacked her cat, hurt its paw and this…

Doggy tooth shortening
Gitdog is having to have this done. Vet says poor little soul has probably been in pain for years but not really showing it, although it does explain his reluctance to let anyone near his mouth. Just wondered if anyone else's dog has had to have this done, and how it went? Plus did your insurer pay up - I'm not able to get…

I am looking to moving to a retirement village where pets are welcomed and want to take my two cats with me. Both are used to the outdoor life. Tasha is a 11 yo female and now summer is coming I shall probably only see her at breakfast and tea. She loves sitting on shed roofs and fences. Bob is 4 yo male and spends more…

Coupe of days ago whilst walking my dogs I saw a torti kitten she kept trying to come over and followed at distance so knows where I live. Tonight she followed me round again, kissed my male dog, hissed at my female dog broke into my house and stole tomcat food (and dogs dry, hissed and grrrrd at tomcat.) I have put her…

Cat food
We have two 9 month old indoor neutered male cats. We've been feeding them on Whiskas (mixture of jelly pouches and casserole pouches which they love), but I'd really like to see them on something with a higher meat content. This is probably the 10th time I've looked at switching since we got them at the end of October but…

Puppy Scooting.
I got my new CKCS puppy on Saturday. She is a little angel. I have noticed that she often scoots..is this normal? The majority of the time it is just after she has come in from having done a poop. Occasionally she does it randomly. Google tells me that it could be caused by worms. She has had 2 lots of worming treatment…

Doggy chill pill needed
Can anyone recommend a doggy chill pill that I can give to our 6 yr old beagle before he gives to the vet for his annual vaccinations? He's OK in the waiting room but as soon as he goes into the examination room he's on his guard - the usual offering of treats that would normal be wolfed down are ignored and he sits in the…

Simple solution
If anyone uses this (the indoor version for dog soiling) it is at a good low price of £12.66 for 4 litres on Amazon, at the moment. (Free delivery if you order two containers). You have to be quick, though, as after the last low price, I hesitated for a few hours and ended up paying nearly £17, as prices change so quickly.…

Is this too expensive
Hi Wonder if any of you kind peeps can advise me if I am paying too much at the vets. I pay a monthly fee of £18, for this Lola a shih tzu gets, worming pills, flea pills and her booster. Would i be better of paying individually for these items? Thanks in advance. Sam
