Occupant in care - council tax discount
Hi If a house is unoccupied due to the occupant in care you may be able to claim a 100% discount. My family recently did that and it was a (relatively) quick and easy process. HTH

Weird VOA letter
Hi We bought our house in 2014. It has an annexe flat above the garage, converted in 1997. We only found out _after_ purchase that it has a separate council tax - band A - even though there was one title, one mortgage and there are only 1 set of utilities (gas, water, electricity, broadband) for our home and the annexe.…

Claiming back additional 3% Stamp Duty
Hi all, Hoping somebody can share their experiences with HMRC on claiming back additional Stamp Duty within 3 years of selling a second property. The standard path to being able to claim back stamp duty would be: - buy new property - sell ‘old’ property - claim back stamp duty. HMRC have asked me to provide details…

Small Claims Court No response from defendant.
I took a business owner to the small claims court, but she never responded to the court. I asked for a judgement to be made, which was granted by the court. A few weeks later the defendant has asked for the decision to be set aside as she says she never received any emails or letters from the court even though the contact…

Council tax revaluation 4 years after purchase
I have just received a notice from the Valuation Office Agency that because the previous owner had made improvements then due to a recent sale a revaluation will be undertaken. Which is fine, except we moved in 4 year ago. Is there a limit as to when they must issue a notice and how far they can go back? Thanks

Myself and my girlfriend have owned a joint property for 15years, it is our only property and main residence. Solar Panel mis-selling
It appears that Solar Panels often do not have the Financial Benefits that are advertised, or that people are promised when they sign up. There are companies that are now contacting Solar Panel Customers and offering to take up a mis-selling case. This seems to apply to customers who used a Finance agreement to pay for the…

Council tax
I've just received a letter stating that I owe them over £400 from 2012, but usually when I receive the next years revised payments, if any payment is outstanding it has to be paid before the next years payments start. Failing that they usually start with the threats of extra charges. Any help please!
