Council Tax Credit Balance at 31st March
Can I insist my council assign the credit balance on my Council tax account at 31 March against my April charge? They want to spread the credit evenly over the whole year. This means I will still owe them money for April even though the credit on my account will cover the charge.

Hi, we have a query regarding this. Our main house is class G (ie one below the highest band), and have an attached annex which is class A and has been the case for over 20years. Rubbish, rubbish everywhere!
Hi all, Apologies in advance if this is not the best place to post this, I wasn't sure. My Council doesn't provide wheelie bins. They only provide orange plastic bags for recycling, and ask people to leave their bags of rubbish on the street in the morning, for their weekly collection. Lots of people put their bags out the…

Council tax challenge question- property valuation vs current band
Hello, I'm working on my CT challenge application. I've found plenty of evidence that properties in the area fall within band B and C based on prices in the 90s and early 00s. A few properties are currently on band C but others are on band D (the band I'd like to challenge for my property). Is it worth adding the evidence…

Should I pay a full years Council Tax?
Hi, any advice would be great. I was privately renting for just over 5 years and paying council tax via 10 monthly instalments for the full year. I moved into my mortgaged home in December and told my existing Council as my new address fell into a new local authority area. I moved on 10th December so had paid my usual…

Council Tax Rebanding Rebate after Bereavement
Hello. I recently applied through the VOA to have our house rebanded and was successful, going from band D to band C. I then received a rebate from the local council for the years we have been living here (since 2018). The house was bought by my in-laws as a new-build in 1973, and has been owned by them until my…

Housing association property and council tax banding
I have read MSE's guide to reclaiming council tax if you think you may be in the wrong band. I noticed that it refers only to privately owned properties and not to social housing; I live in a 2 bedroom mid terrace house built in 2007 (we are the first tenants) owned by a housing association so I can't check what it has…

Council tax back dated 5 years to a higher band
Hi there In 2016 I demolished and rebuilt my house. It's actually a smaller footprint and has the same number of bedrooms as before. On completion the council happened to tell me that they had been to look at it and put an improvement indicator on the public council tax records. It remained at the same banding. 5 Years…
