Council Tax levied on guest

One of my children was trapped between house moves during the first lockdown and so stayed with me. My local council had taken a charge via Direct Debit stating that I was not entitled to a single occupancy discount during this period. So, are they correct?

How long did they stay with you?You can obviously have a guest but after so long you are not eligible for the single occupancy discount. How did the council find out? Did the child register to vote? Neighbour told on you?0

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If the answer to this is no, then the council are correct in temporarily removing your single person discount, unless your son was a full time student at the timetheoretica said:If they were between house moves then did they have any other home?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
