Council tax reduction partial success in Wales
I live in Wales. Following the good advice from Martin Lewis I decided to challenge my council tax band. Successs! the valuation Agency has just reduced my band from F to E. The council has paid me a refund for 6 years to Feb 2016. There seems to be a law in Wales that refunds can only go back 6 years. This seems unfair as…

Correcting a council tax banding
We bought our house in 2020 and it sold for 392500 which works our council tax banding to be an E. However the property next door which is identical sold at 79000 in 1995 so surely our house would have been the same value therefore a band D. Also when our house previously sold in 2008 it would have put its price at about…

We've just got our house in South Cambridgeshire rebanded from G to F, saving us £466 a year. Despite our providing lots of photos and other written evidence showing comparable local houses in Band F, the appeals service initially turned us down and provided their own evidence claiming our house should remain at G. We…

Single Person Discount Rejected
I've recently moved into a flat in which I am the only occupant, and I have just been informed by the council that my application for the Single person discount has been rejected as apparently my income is too high. I thought that the single person discount wasn't affected by income, and even still, I don't earn a crazy…
