What do you ACTUALLY need if you're having a baby?
I hope this is the right place to post but I am finding the sheer amount of products on the market for a new baby overwhelming and am wondering what things I will need immediately when I bring baby home. Somethings I realise are essential like a car seat however, a cot isn't essential in the first few months. From your…

First time mum...Starting maternity leave and freaking out
Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post. Basically I am 35, in a high stress role that I absolutely cannot cope with and has caused me some health issues (high blood pressure, severe exhaustion, SPD amongst others) So at 30 weeks pregnant with my first baby, I'm leaving work. I only get SMP from the…

At what age can children use mugs?
Really random question, but not having any kids I'm completely clueless. At what age can children start using mugs? Basically thinking of buying some nice Christmas mugs with some snowman soup cones for my friend's kids. Boys are aged 3 and 6. Can I get china or would plastic be better? Thanks so much for your knowledge!

mothercare pushchairs
MOTHERCARE PURCHASES BEWARE I bought a pushchair in January for my daughter who was due to have her first child. Mothercare was my shop of choice as I have two other grandchildren both of which I bought a pram/pushchair for on their appearance into the world. A tradition I think. However, the first pushchair I purchased in…

Would you give to charity instead of receiving greeting cards?
Hi money saving mums! 85% of women buy greeting cards. And we're spending 1.5 Billion a year on them. Would you want to see some of this money go to better use, such as giving to charity, instead of people sending you all of those cards? Imagine £50 going to a cause you care about, instead of cards on your special…

kids channels on tv
so do you think that CITV or CBBC are 'responsible' channels which send out programmes you can let your kids watch unmonitored? my DIL thought so - until complaints about her sons behaviour from both myself and her parents made her ban one programme. that program was 'Horrid Henry'. its a cartoon, but, after watching the…

Narrow fitting shoes for child
No 1 daughter has narrow feet and we're struggling to get shoes to fit her. She's currently a 5 E (child not adult 5), but the Clarks Es seem to be a bit wide. Are there any other brands that people have had success with getting a narrow fitting? Our local StartRite shoes shop only goes down to an F. Thanks

Quietly saying HI!
Hi! I've been on the MSE forums for a while now, but have never joined this board. I currently have 3 DDs (10, 8 and 5) and DH and I have finally decided to TTC no. 4, after long discussions re the pros and cons of having one more. As I'll be 40 in 3 years, this really will be my last baby (DD3 was born when I was 32).…

Getting a baby used to sleeping on the go
Hi all I'm pregnant with baby 2 which is due in November. We already have a DS who is 2 and I have to say he is a dream when it comes to sleeping at night. The problem we had with him was that he wouldn't sleep on the go, not in the pram, well sometimes after lots of tears or in the car. He seems to be too nosey and wants…

Cupboard locks - screw in or stick on type?
Would love some advice from you experienced parents out there! I am in the process of adopting a little one and need to get cupboard locks for the kitchen. I wondered if you would recommend screw in or adhesive types? I do not really want to have to drill into the cupboards so thought about the stick on ones but then…

Cot bed matress advice - how to choose?
I am looking at buying a cotbed matress and wanted some advice. It is not for a newborn (child is just over 1yr) but I will be using it for a few years and wondered what people's advice would be about buying a middle of the range priced one or one of the more expensive ones? Would you go for a foam matress or sprung? Also…

Hoarding Pre-Baby
Hey ladies, apologies if this has been done I haven't been on for a while. So I am hoarding things before baby three arrives, the usual baby wipes, shampoo, nappies etc. And I'm planning to breastfeed so I have a pump and I'm looking into buggies for expressed milk etc. I was wondering firstly if it's worth hoarding…

Selling kids things - what to do with the money?
This might sound really daft, but I would really appreciate others opinions on something... It was my daughters birthday a month ago and I bought her a new bike, I was going to give her old one away to a family member, then thought against it as I am always giving away my daughters used things and it has now become…
