Eon billed me 450 for 14 years of unused meter, please help
After moving house I have a bill for £450 for a gas pre payment meter which was unused for 14 years. The bill is for 0.08p a day for 14 years, standard daily charge. I never received a bill during the 14 years and was never contacted by eon other than to occasionally check the meter. I am now receiving the standard debt…

Thermaflow and air source heat pump
Hi. We currently have an electric heating company electric boiler for heating and an immersion heater for hot water needs. We're on an economy 10 tariff and our total yearly electricity bill is around 2200 pounds and that's just over 17000 kw. This is obviously all of our electricity requirements. We would like to move to…

Boiler Replacement Scheme Form (Northern Ireland)
I'm going to be applying for a grant to replace an old boiler. Part of the form is about annual income. Do I fill in what I have earned in the previous year? Or do I fill in what I expect to earn this year? The 2 amounts are vastly different, and depending on which is correct to declare, I may or may not be entitled to the…

British Gas repair
The past few days I had noticed I can hear the boiler running at odd times when the nest themostat was not calling for heat and hot water. We moved into a house in November and are still getting used to the conventional hot water/ heating system with tank for hot water as we are used to combi boilers. The boiler is a Ideal…

Avro Elec and Gas
I have just finished a year with Avro fixed duel fuel and upset because I have ended up almost £300 in credit . So far have asked for it back 3 times but not received it yet. I have renewed, thinking now I was foolish, they have put DD payment up and also my usage even though they know my last years. So even If I get my…

Should my boiler be doing this?
A couple of weeks ago I had my annual service with British Gas and he fixed a couple of faults, and left saying the boiler is working perfectly and efficiently. However, it seems to be working different than it ever has done before. It's gravity fed hot water and we've not got the heating on in this weather, so it's just…

Boiler problem
I have an Ideal Minimiser SE50 giving an ignition problem, but this is a general query. I understand that if the condensate pipe gets blocked (typically by freezing) a boiler trips out. But I cannot see any sensor which detects this condition, either in the manual or on the boiler itself. Can anybody please advise?

Switching electricity tariff to EON
My EDF deal was coming to an end so I tried to switch to EON via the energy club. I assumed it was all going ahead, however, just received a call and email telling me I have a complex meter (first I have heard of it!) and the e7 tariff can't be used with my meter. However, they do have a dearer option if I want! Has anyone…

Heating Systems without Mains Gas
Hi, We are in the process of buying a house (1940s Semi) in a rural village which has no mains gas supply. The previous occupant was a single elderly lady who got by with three storage heaters and an immersion heater. We are a young couple and seeing this as a future family home and therefore want to install a futureproof…

Efficient boiler programming
Hi there, so we recently had a new oil-fired boiler installed. It has an integral water tank which it keeps "topped up" so there is alway shot water available, but it seems that is does this 24hrs a day - which just seems so inefficient! Does anyone know / have experience of whether it ends up more efficient to run it like…

Could really use some help
Hi, I could really use some help with regards to my electric bill. I'm with Scottish Power and seem to be being massively overcharged. I live in a 1 bedroom flat (electric only) and I'm currently getting a bill for £337 per quarter (£1,204.75 p/a). I've spoken to them a number of times only to be told that's what the…

Cheapest time to buy kiln dried wood?
I'm having a multi fuel stove fitted in a few weeks and I have been told that spring/summer is the cheapest time to buy wood? Looking at buying 1m3 of wood, hoping this and some smokeless fuel will last me a winter? But which month would you say was the cheapest ?

Eco friendly boiler scrapage scheme
I’ve been contacted by Eco boilers who install new energy efficient Zanussi boilers with no up front costs. Paid for on a monthly maintenance plan. I’m not sure how they got my details but I did click on a link with Martin Lewis’s picture on. So I’m not sure if it’s a genuine deal or a clever form of cold calling-do you?!?

Coal vs Oil vs other?
Hi, I'm actually asking on behalf of my mother in law so I don't have all of the facts but she is now coming up to the point where her coal fired boiler needs replacing. From what I have read so far it doesn't seem like many people are going for coal any more and most switch to oil or maybe even biomass when gas isn't…

High Gas Bill - Last chance!
I have had an ongoing dispute with Scottish Power about my Gas bill since February and have brought in the ombudsman but with no success... I live in a 2 bed flat and they are claiming that I have used £300 worth of gas a month since November! This is just not possible - I have lived here for 10 years and nothing has…

Moving Gas Metre
Hi, we are looking to build an extension but our gas meter is on a wall where part of the extension would go. Our boiler is upstairs in the airing cupboard and on an external wall. Initially we were only doing one storey so we were going going to move the gas Metre around the corner to the kitchen external wall and have…

Bathroom Radiators
Hi, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction how to resolve the problem with my towel radiators in the bathroom. They were working well when we had the heating on. We have turned the heating off and have switched on the bathroom radiators at the wall where they have a fused on/off switch but they are not…

How do I know it's my gas meter?
Hi all. Firstly, I'm new to renting - I've recently just moved out from my parents. This is all confusing to me so I'm going to try and explain it the best I can. The property I rent is a 3-bed apartment on top of a business Mon-Friday. It's basically a head quarters with some offices in etc. My gas meter is located within…

Will I get charged for having my meter changed?
I've just moved into a new property which has a single rate electricity meter but I want to be on economy 7. I also want to change to a different supplier than the one the previous tenants were using. The energy supplier I want to go with said they will have to charge me £80 to change the meter to an E7 one. So I thought,…
