Do I need an ISA?
In the past I found ISA useless, perhaps because I did not have much savings and interest rates were poor. As we know things are improving if not yet perfect on the rates. So lets start with I am a higher rate tax payer. Since rates started to improve I have moved my savings out of the terrible HSBC to initially Chase and…

Closing ISA
This FY, I opened a Cash ISA and a Nutmeg S&S ISA and paid into both. I have another ISA with my main bank, which has been dormant since 2020 - no payment in nor withdrawals. Practically no interest at the moment (0.4% I think). I would like to withdraw this money and close the ISA, then deposit it into a high interest…

Transferring ISAs within the same company
I recently transferred a fixed rate ISA from West Brom to Virgin and it took only a few days. Unfortunately two weeks ago I then had a go
with another couple of ISAs with Kent
Reliance and Shawbrook that were paying very little and thought it might be
more straightforward to move them to the latest KR and Shawbrook 1 year…

Paying off the mortgage ISA investment: should I have to declare it to HMRC?
Hello I have an account with Aegon to pay off my mortgage. And that investment has reached the stage where I can pay off the mortgage. However, I asked Aegon if I could transfer these funds straight to my mortgage account with Nationwide. I was told that I have to transfer it to a current account. I spoke to Nationwide.…

5 year fixed rate ISA should I withdraw and open another at higher rate
I have a 5-year fixed rate ISA paying 2.1% that matures 15/12/2023 Would I be better of withdrawing it at a loss of 365 days interest and putting it in a 3-year fixed rate ISA paying 4,75%.

Moneybox Lifetime ISA now at 3.25%

It can be worth withdrawing ISA cash in order to transfer it
We're always told not to withdraw money from an ISA if you want to transfer it to another provider, because it will lose its tax-free status, but it can be worthwhile if (a) the new provider won't accept transfers in, only new money, and (b) doing so won't limit the amount you can afford to deposit in that tax year.

Isa costs when moving small print
Heads up if not already discussed. Just moved a five year 2.2% cash isa to virgin and was of the understanding I would lose 180 days interest. Just checked the money had been moved and yes all moved. However Halifax moving costs were £385ish on £17300 balance . As the interest is normally added in April I thought I would…

Hello guys. I'm hoping to get some clarity with this post whether CASH ISA is for me. Coventry BS - what's the recent application process like?
I suppose I could ask this under the banking or savings board, but I'm trying under ISAs as it's Coventry's Limited Access ISA paying 2.25% I'm interested in. I used to be a member when they issued gridcards, but I lost my online access when I closed my accounts. A year or two ago, I applied for an ISA, but they took some…

Query Fixed Rate v ISA x 1.25%
Hi, general query, hope you can help On the MSE best savings rate page it states to work out if an ISA is better you should multiply the ISA rate by 1.25 for basic rate tax payers and the fixed rate saving would have to be equivalent to that to beat the ISA. So for example, if you have £50k to invest....best ISA is 3.9%…

IFISA Transfer delay
Hi, earlier this year started an IFISA transfer to a Stocks & Shares ISA. Although I started this process a couple of months before the end of the financial year. The old IFISA messed up and it ended up being transferred in the current tax year. I had to do a lot of chasing up to see where my money had actually gone. I…

Wait or fix
My cash ISA with Virgin money has matured this week. They are offering 3.7% for a 1 year fix but now my funds are held in an easy access account paying just 0.25%. with the BoE decision next week on interest rates being predicted for a rise am I better off waiting until after that to make a decision. Obviously I'm not…

Transfer in with no new money
Possibly a very stupid question.... but is there a subset of the best cash ISAs that are OK to just accept a transfer with no new money? I want to transfer my existing cash ISA but not add any money as I want to put my ISA allowance into my S&S ISA. I was in the process of applying for one with Shawbrook and although they…
