I've been put off because there website said prices from £990 for a composite door but once the salesman turned up he said everything is £1260. Any ideas how much a composite door costs from the national companies?…

Cost of flat roof repair or renew.
Hi all Am based in London suburbs, Epsom area and live in a chalet extended house. The bedroom ceiling, underneath the flat roof section, ( flat roof is between two pitched rooves on either side) is leaking in many places, so I suspect a full renewal will be in order. It's maybe a 3.5 metre square area, but not too sure…

Replacement Garden Fence
Hi, i am in South London, need about 5 meters of wood garden fence that rotted to be replaced. The quotes I am getting around £500 which seems excessive. Aren’t there pre-built panels that can easily be installed? Also as the fence is a boundary between 2 properties I am trying to track down the owner of the flat so we can…

VAT not included in quote
Hi, I recently asked a company to provide me with a quote for fencing. They said they'd have a look and provide me with one, but they would need to include 20% VAT as they were registered. They rang me back later that day quoting £1450 - I received no paperwork for this. I agreed and they completed the job (which was a…

Coil and diverter for Baxi Combi 105e
Hi, My partners' mum had an plumbing issue and a family friend turned what they thought was a screw to drain the system (Baxi Combi). When a plumber came out to finish everything, he has told her that this screw unwound the coil, rendering it broken. As the diverter valve was already on the blink, he has quoted £750 to fix…

Block paving price and question
Hello, I moved into my house last year and ever since, I've been wanting to improve the path from the drive way to house. I am conscious that replacing the path will then make my block paved drive that was laid when the house was originally built some 18 years ago, look rather rubbish. The drive is looking sun drained of…

Structural engineer fee
Just been given a bill from a structural engineer who I asked to determine if a wall was loadbearing (it wasn't). For a 10-15 min visit where he poked a tape measure through a hole I'd previously made in the ceiling and writing an email, he's billing me for £250 plus VAT. Is that reasonable? It seems a bit excessive to me.

Cost of moving (private) manhole for new porch?
Grateful for some advice - two fairly clueless girls planning building work for the first time. Background: We'd like to build a relatively simple porch on the front of our barn conversion. It's small enough to not need Building Regs, but because of the area we live in it does need Planning. There's currently a manhole…
