High value items not declared: can we get any payout at all for them?
Hi there, really hoping for some guidance here as I wade through the aftermath of my elderly parent's burglary. Their contents insurance policy says, under "What's not insured", the following: "valuables in your home over £2,000 individually, unless the items are specified on your personal details." They lost several items…

Has anyone had any issues with home insurance this year? I see from the recent newsletter that we are expecting an increase of 36% but my current insurance is £330 and the cheapest quote I’ve had from various sites is £530!!

WOW - 67% increase on home insurance
I've just had my renewal quote from Admiral - a 67% increase on last years policy cost. No claims, no changes. After contacting them they've offered some 'discount' meaning its now 'only' a 51% increase. Apparently its inflation and the cost of everything going up. I did mention inflation isn't that high. Any…

When to pay for new renewal car insurance? (Not when to get quote)
Car insurance due 4 weeks exactly. I've got quotes. Quotes are much batter than current provider. Happy to go for the cheapest quote I got from a bunch of the search engines. When should I sign up and pay? Now, so I don't forget about! Or nearer the time? Or does it not really matter? Thanks.

Notifying Insurance.
Hi all, Last week my daughter, a new driver, unfortunately, damaged her car. Was overtaking another vehicle on a dual carriageway well within the speed limit. He pulled into her lane. She swerved to avoid him and scraped along the metal barrier. Thankfully, she righted the car and didn't hit any other cars. After looking…

Insurance extent where extension not bridged over sewer
Hi all, I am in the process of buying a property (not exchanged yet) but have a few concerns and wondered if anyone has any experience of this situation or advice to offer? The house is a small terrace built c.1900. The drainage search shows a combined public sewer running under the alley and then across the back of the…

Carry and reward insurance?
My husband is starting a new job doing multiple drops a day of prescriptions from local pharmacy to patients houses. He will be using our car, but employed by the pharmacy rather than self-employed. The pharmacy are looking to provide a van later in the year, but at present he will just be using ours. The present policy…

Damaged new neighbours car while moving house
Last year I helped my sister-in-law move house and used a sack-truck type trolley for some larger items. While moving her tall fridge outside her new house, the trolley jumped on a bit of uneven pavement and the fridge tipped over, clipping her new neighbours car door (dent & scratch). At the time I spoke to the neighbour…

Insurance for student belongs
I'm thinking ahead here. Our daughter has now got her accommodation sorted for year 2, but we need to make sure her contents are insured for her. Our current insurers will cover her belongings whilst in her room, but not if in the communal area nor when she is moving to and from campus. She is going to be house sharing…

No claims discount removed after I reported an incident without claim
Hi, Yesterday I was sitting in a queue of traffic waiting for a level crossing to open. There is a road on the left that means you need to allow cars to turn right, so I left a gap. Big lorry starts to turn and looks like he'll hit me, so I reverse a foot or so to make sure he doesn't. Motion sensor tells me I'm close to…

Cycling insurance. Worthwhile?
I cycle most days. 10 minute cycle each way to work. Cycle at the weekends for a few hours. I own no lycra and am not a hardcore cyclist. I ride a Pashley, if you're familiar with the hand-made, British brand. I recently read someone on Facebook write "most cyclists have insurance". Do they? I've never heard a person I…

Esure impossible to contact as a third party
Hi everyone. I was involved in a RTC in early Sept 23 when an Esure customer knocked me off my bike. Ended up in hospital with a number of broken bones and a wrecked bike which was written off as uneconomic to repair. All fair enough, Esure admitted liability. But the hard part has started as they just don't appear to want…

How to value old and/or discontinued items for Home Contents Insurance?
Hi all I'm having a tot up of my contents and getting quite confused as to how to value some of them. I wondered if anyone could help please? Seems I get more sense on this forum than asking the insurers directly! Here's some examples... - TV. A 42" Panasonic but around 15 years old. So probably not worth much as old…

GAP insurance claim
Hi there. I’ve recently had to make a claim on a car GAP insurance policy because the car itself was involved in a RTA, and subsequently declared a total loss by my insurer. Anyhow, the GAP insurer is asking for a vehicle order form despite me uploading the purchase invoice. I’ve checked through the policy wording and…

Money Super Market quote 33% above quote from insurer
I completed the MSE advised motor insurance comparison tool which uses Money Supermarket. The quotes came back. Admiral quoted £446 on this site. Going direct to Admiral, the annualised quote was £297, £149 less! Of the reduction, only £18 was for the mutipolicy discount. The cheapest quote on the Moneysupermarket site was…
