Any Microwave (combi) Oven Experts?
Hi. My girlfriend is looking at a new microwave after the old one died unexpectedly, and considering getting a combi air fryer type. She's considering two models but one is twice the price and we were wondering why? I'm really not an expert on this stuff and am wondering what to prioritise? Both seem to be a microwave and…

Extension use pension?
We are currently having some improvements done to our home however we don't have the full amount in cash to get it all done. If we save to do it, it will take roughly 3 years. We are both working and over 55 and could release 25% of a private pension which would enable us to complete the works. Do we take the pension? We…

BOXT Installers
Do the likes of BOXT, iHeat, etc use their own installers or do they work through local companies? I've been quoted £2500 from BOXT for a Worcester Bosch 4000 30kW which also comes with a free Hive.mini, they'll also do a full Magnacleanse system flush for an extra £200. Going direct to Worcester Bosch would cost a hundred…

Fridge doesn't seem to work that well.
I have a tall Beko machine that I got free 2 years ago and since day 1 it is nowhere near as good as my old one. For example at max setting I can have something like a can of soft drink in it and it feels cool rather than cold and gets to room temperature quickly. To be clear it is cooling as you can feel the cold on it…

Pergola options for base
Evening all We’ve had a new patio laid and we’re looking to erect a pergola (DIY option rather than purchase a kit). With the four posts. Rather than digging them into the ground with postcrete, we want to put the bases into 4 large plant pots and concrete them into those. Can anyone see any major disadvantages of doing…

VAT charged by VAT-registered company but payment had to be made to a non-VAT registered person
I had a new kitchen fitted recently. The company who did it supplied the kitchen units, and they charged me for both the kitchen and fitting, applying VAT to it all. However, it was fitted by a self-employed non-VAT registered person and I was required to pay him directly.I am unhappy about being charged VAT for the…

Extension Lead Broken - how to fix/re-wire?
Hi, we have one of those 25m extension lead reels. Had it for a long time. Always worked fine. All of a sudden no power. Would like not to send it to landfill if any of it can be saved. Googled around, and we are first trying to cut off a portion of either end and re-wire in case there is cable damage at either end (people…

Chair causing indentations in carpeting
This isn't really DIY but can anyone suggest a solution? OH has an arthritic hip and can no longer use our living room 3-piece suite - too low. A dining chair is currently being used which is much easier to rise from - but is making nasty indentations in the carpet. Ideally we need something which will spread the pressure…

Reshape Paintbrush?
Hi all, Picked up a 2” Purdy Monarch Pro Extra at a car boot sale for a mere 50p today. Not gunked up with paint, and the ferrule seems in good condition. But as you can see, the bristles are out of shape. Probably been sitting a while in the wrong position. Is there a way to reshape this back to its former glory? Cheers!

Painting — Will this show through on the top coat?
Hi all, We’re repainting the house. Original (and quite terrible) plaster. Dips and undulations everywhere. Not really interested in getting rid of those, as I’m not prepared or in a position to re-plaster. I’ve taken a pole sander and sanded down all the walls. Naturally, it hits the high spots and previous roller marks.…

Gutter advice please
Hi everyone, I've had an issue with part of the gutter on the garage of my new property. It's been a problem for a while and is already staining the wall so was hoping to get it sorted asap. At the moment I'm being told I need to replace the entire gutter which seems extreme as the rest of the gutter is in good condition…
