Insulation - Vapour Barrier ?
I am laying some Wickes 100mm insulation down in the loft, replacing some old paper backed blanket stuff thats disintegrates when touched. According to my trusty Readers Digest DIY manual I need to put down a vapor barrier first ("reflective foil building paper or polythene sheets") between the joists. The instructions on…

The only ones I have found are £14 each. Has anyone any ideas where I can get…

H'lo there, Been in a flat last few years, and appliances have been behaving. The washing machine recently starts banging, clattering and shaking when on a spin (even on a slow 600) so is really not working as it should. It's definitely out of warranty (I inherited it from the flat!) but I am clueless as to what I do next.…

Why are my upstairs radiators always on??
Hello, I've recently bought and moved into a new house, and amongst the various curiosities to get used to is the heating. The boiler can be set to 'Off', 'Hot water only', or 'Hot water and Heating'. I would have expected that when on 'Hot water only' this means I would get hot water out my hot tap, but the radiators…

Combi boiler ignites, but won't stay lit, flame detection?
Its an old ICI Caldaie 120SE, serviced last year, PCB & air switch replaced. CH is on a timer, didn't come on this morning. For CH or HW the boiler will fire up OK, but only runs for 10-20 seconds, the igniter fires again, as if its not seen the flame detect, flame is extinguished, then it goes into lockout (red lamp on).…
