PV quote, what questions to ask?
Have a PV quote, see below. What insightful questions do I need to ask?? I've taken a look at your property on Google Earth and have come up with an initial proposal for you. Your property could have a system size of 6.4 kWp. This would consist of 16 x 400W Perlight Delta panels on your south facing roof and two X1 Boost…

3 Unbalanced Strings - Givenery Hybrid 5kw Invertor
Looking to get at least 6kW of panels. (N is up btw) As well as the panels on the roof (everyone suggests 11), I want to put the panels along the single storey side extension and rear extension but there will be shade on some panels that tracks across throughout the day. I've suggested just putting optimisers on those…

Adding more solar
Had my 4kw system since Nov 2015 and making maximum use of it. Looking at adding more panels and looking for advice from people who have added to an existing system, I have 16 x 250w panels and probably have room for another 4 panels horizontally mounted beneath the current ones although you can get higher capacity panels…

Solar panels distances from things
Hello, Just trying to work out how many panels I can squeeze onto my roof. From googling it seems to be 30cm from the edges/ridge tile. However I can't seem to find how far from a dormer or Velux (I have both). Does anyone know how close you can put panels to these ? Cheers

April 2021 Solar PV install - 3.33kWp, West Berkshire
I mentioned in another thread - this one - that I had received quotes for a solar PV installation and that I was thinking of going with Light Renewables, a small firm based in Kent. Not exactly local for my property in West Berkshire (roughly 90 miles by road) but they are happy to travel and the only local installer I…

Solar PV - does payback/breakeven matter?
new to the board. first, i will love solar installer recommendations. we are in Bucks. i got a quote from Wallop Energy and Glowgreen and they seem to be okay but both quoted based on satellite photographs. none of them did an in-person survey. is that normal? now onto the main question - we consume approx 5k kwh of…

Our new Energy tariff arrived today!
Got a bit of a shock when opening our new tariff this morning. The daytime right has almost trebled, 39p, while overnight has gone up four fold, 22p! Just how are the majority of UK residents going to manage. Thank goodness the sun is shining.

How to "use" the solar panels on my house?
Hi all, I've been lazy.... 7 years of lazy. In short, we moved into a new build (first owners) back in 2015 and on the roof were solar panels. At the time, they had issues connecting them up, found they were installed upside down a few other issues. All rectified however other priorities took place and we just forgot about…

Suggestion needed for a Battery Backup System
Hi All, Given the rising energy prices, I have been looking at ways to reduce ongoing cost. I live in a 5 bedroom property with 3 adults and 4 teenagers. Our electricity usage is about 20-26KW daily. Both adult work from home and at least 1 adult will always work from home . I was planning a DIY battery backup option, but…

Feed in tarriffs and the huge increase in electricity prices
We have solar panels and regularly pump 2kw or more into the national grid during the day. Our electricity bill is set to increase considerably, should not our feedin tariff be increasing inline??? Or are the energy companies simply being allowed to greatly profit from everyones solar panels which they didn't pay for???

EV home charger and throttling
Hi I got an EV home charger fitted Nov 2020 and since having solar PV and all the other off peak white goods on it is getting throttled. A little but of digging has shown that the quick way the EV installer gets around submitting the paperword to the Distribution Point Network Operator os to set the site ampage on the…

Any grants available to add renewables to a home?
I inherited solar panels on moving house. I would love to extend them to include storage batteries. Maybe a domestic wind turbine - again with storage batteries. Convert my wood burner into a a back boiler situation. Am in Scotland - any financial assistance around?

EON - Solar Panels - Thoughts on my quote please
Hi All, With all the craziness lately I have been exploring my options in terms of solar, had a number of quotes, the best of which seems to be from EON. Some notes on the house - south facing, minimal shading, 35 angle of the roof, some older appliances (kitchen) that will be updated in the near future. I work from home…

Monitoring house energy
Hi all I know a few of us have some sort of solar monitoring and battery monitoring and even EV charger monitoring as well as IHDs for smart meters. But I'm wondering if anyone has went a step further and opted for a home assistant or similar type setup? I seen this screenshot a few days ago and it got my head spinning I…

Where does the solar energy go?
I have a new solar panel install with an Iboost. I don't yet have my g99 form as it is being processed. Installer didn't get on to it so I had to chase. So this means I am not exporting to an energy company yet as I need the g99 to apply for the tarrif. My question is: once the iboost has heated my hot water, and I am…

Could anyone sanity-check my fag-packet solar ROI calculation?
I've been thinking about having solar panels on our roof (in South West London) and have been using this utility to attempt to calculate the energy which I might be able to produce per annum: https://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvg_tools/en/#PVP I've selected the "Crystalline silicon" technology, and an "installed PV power" of 2.4…
