Hi all,

I've been quoted today for a solar array including batteries - I am still waiting on some other companies to complete their proposals as comparison so just wanted to sense check the price please:

5.84kW System
16 × 365W JA Solar MBB Half-Cell Module
Sungrow 8kw inverter
2 x Sungrow 5kW batteries
Scaffolding and full installation included

Probably around 3K too much for my liking, but as said by others price and demand ....

Sounds an odd match up, normally your total kWp is higher than your inverter, did they say why an 8kw inverter and not a 5kw?

I'm guessing it's a hybrid and 8kW is the most it can provide from solar + batteries?

I just double checked this with them as another company said the same thing.  Its a SunSynk inverter and batteries and they said its 8kW to cope with the potential need to add a third 5kW battery after a year or two to improve efficiencies if required - does this make sense?

Sounds like you're spending money you don't need to?
I'm not an expert on inverter sizing but everything I've leant so far says you match them to your panels not your battery.

I suppose the good thing is you'll have more freedom with an 8kW inverter to turn multiple loads on in your home and be able to use the battery, do you know what the batteries max output is? I doubt it's 8kW.

It's an interesting quote that's for sure.
