Plug in solar panels?
With the price increases in energy should I buy some plug in solar panels? The kit has an inverter and we can give it a dedicated spur. We have a big garden to put the panels in. The kit is 320w with inverter. It costs just over £700. Anyone done it, and experience of these please

Solar Panel Advice
Hello, I am buying a new build property (detached 4 bed, not built yet), due to move in back end of this year (2022). Luckily it is with a small builder who is happy for me to request any changes/additions throughout the build. It will be fitted with an air source heat pump as standard (underfloor heating for the whole…

Bead Cavity Wall Insulation - Advice/experience really appreciated
We have lived in a 'self build' house for the past 20 years (original build around 1985). It wasn't built by us. Unfortunately, we have been told over the years that the cavity space in the outer walls would not allow for 'foam' style of insulation, so we have never progressed at all re insulation. I've now come across,…

Unsolicited Phone Call re Solar Panel Servicing?
Bit of a bizarre one this - I've just spoken to my 87yrs old dad on the phone and he told me someone is coming round to check his solar panels tomorrow. Apparently he had an unsolicited phone call last week from someone saying his solar panels must be checked because they hadn't been serviced for over 10 years? He doesn't…

CT Clamp question
If I already have an iboost for hot water, and I want to install a Zappi solar car charger, does it matter that it also uses a CT clamp to calculate energy?

Woodland Carbon Code
Does anyone have experience of planting trees and selling carbon credits through this scheme? I have a piece of land which I could potentially use for this purpose, but would need to understand it better first. In particular, I'm not clear on whether it generates a regular income or simply a one-off payment. thanks

PV benefit in the day / cold months
Hi everyone - this is for experienced Solarists to give advice to those awaiting install on the benefits. Is there any point putting the delay timer on my Washing Machine /dishwasher in the winter months, the better to catch a few rays and save some costs? Or would it be a negligible benefit?

Solar vs Annuity
I was thinking that, in some ways, solar panels are pretty similar to an annuity in terms of a pension product: - They require a lump sum invested for a (almost) guaranteed return. - They are index linked. - They are worthless when the owner(s) pass away So comparing a similar annuity rates vs solar Solar, £10k would buy a…

iBoost problems
I
recently had solar panels and iboost installed. I hoped to use the iboost to probably
heat all my water in summer and certainly it was a good way of effectively
storing some of the energy from the panels. I am disappointed to discover that only
a little energy is being stored in the tank. It quickly reaches WATER HOT…

Using the AC to provide more direct targeted heating, possibly lowering my expenditure
See my sig for system plus I'm on "Go" My Central heating is via gas and radiators and I am seeing my gas expenditure far outstripping my eclectic expenditure. (Hummm should have said electric but maybe I was right the first time LOL) I have the heating turned off in my bedroom as I sleep with the windows open all year…

Can I have a wind turbine on my end of terrace?
Who can tell me what kind of wind turbine I can have on my standard Edwardian end of terrace with a long thin 100ft garden? I want it to punch in to the house electrics and sell excess to the grid. I already have solar. Is there a kind of wind turbine I can legally have?!

Questions for Solar Installation Sales Interview
Hello. Tonight we have a Zoom meeting with a solar installation company, and a few more booked over ensuing weeks. We have a hipped roof victorian end of terrace with a south and a west aspect - hoping for approximately a 3kw system including a diverter to the immersion on the hot water cylinder. I don't particularly want…

Solar iboost question
Hi. I am having solar installed in a few weeks and an iboost to heat two immersion heaters on my newish cylinder, which is attached to a system boiler. I have one question - is it possible to program the iboost to ONLY use solar energy and only to work with it? I understand this is what can be done with the rather amazing…

Views on battery quote please
I had panels installed a few years ago with the Norfolk 'Solar Together' initiative. I have a 4kW system that generates around 4300 kWh per annum. I have been very happy with the setup and it has paid for itself already. I am interested in trying to reduce my energy costs further (and try to be greener) and have signed up…

Solar PV...Still worth it?
Or have I missed the boat? With the planned changes in FIT payments is it still a reasonable option. I now have money that wasn't available last year to be able to go down the "bought" panel route & pay outright .(I would never have considered the "roof rent" type schemes) I haven't done much homework on the subject but I…

SSE delay in getting export approval?
We had a 6.7kw (5kw inverter) system installed mid November. The installer said that they sent off the notification to Scottish Southern Electric for DNO approval shortly after commissioning. However, I still have not got the DNO approval. Has anyone got any experience of how long it is taking to getaproval from SSE? ... I…

any downsides to free solar panels from ‘energy switch’
I have been offered free solar panels from energy switch as part of the government scheme. Are there any disadvantages? It’s an old house- is the roof likely to be damaged? I can find very little about the company on the internet. Thanks

EV Car ordered - Options for potentially using solar to charge?
I moved from Sheffield to Lincoln this year and lost my beloved solar panels. Anyway I have a relatively energy efficient house but no solar panels. I will be taking delivery of a Kia E Niro in January and am having a Zappi charger fitted that is supposedly compatible with solar panels. I know solar panels themselves are…

SEG when your supplier fails
(I'm not sure which board to post this on so putting it here as it's about solar PV generation and the Smart Export Guarantee) We are with Avro and waiting to be told who our new supplier will be. I also had signed up for SEG with Avro. We went with them as we'd only just had the panels installed in the summer and needed…
