Who to notify?..... DC coupled retrofit battery
I have a 10kWh Growatt hybrid inverter with an 11.44 solar array on 3ph. Export is restricted to 10kWh.on G98. If I add 20kW of DC coupled battery storage, do I need to notify / seek DNO approval? Export is controlled by the existing inverter and batteries are on DC side so any export is controlled to agreed limit.

Growatt battery discharging too early - Octopus Flux setup help
Growatt SPH6000 + 5kWh battery on Octopus Flux - why is battery discharging at 14:00 instead of waiting for my Grid First schedule (16:00-19:00)? Battery Backup
I am thinking of putting a backup system in place to power the house when we have power cuts, of which there have been a few recently, some lasting several hours. Planning battery installation soon, and only to feed one of the three phases (i.e., not heaters) when in backup mode, but not sure if to go with automated…

Recycling Feather/Down clothing or duvets
Hi, this seemed the most appropriate place to mention this scheme which I discovered today after some digging about. Not so much money-saving as a morality-saving for anyone who struggles with the ethics of living in a throw-away society perhaps! I've upgraded my very old feather and down duvet and wanted it to be…

Change bottle gas central heating & hot water to solar & electric - advice please
Hi all, I have a small property in a high up rural location, 2 bed semi bungalow with a log burner but the main heating is gas powered central heating for the radiators and hot water. There is no mains gas so I rely on the expensive 2 gas bottle system installed before buying it. With working away its usually only used for…

Ripple Energy wind farm?
Has anyone looked at Ripple Energy? I'm thinking about it, but not too seriously. I don't have a lot of time to investigate it and if anyone else has taken a look I'd appreciate their thoughts before I take a more serious look.

Solar panels Spam call National/local energy support trusted homes
Thought I'd post this here with today's spam call, it nearly caught me out so possibly others will benefit. I don't usually answer unknown numbers, but this English speaking man called and knew my name, number and home address. At first I thought it was a courtesy call from my installer. He rambled on and said a colleague…

Considering Additional Growatt Battery - supplier/installer recommendations
Hey all, So, we have a 4.5kWh (10x 450w) Solar array on the roof, a 3.6KWh Hybrid Inverter and a single 6.5kWh Growatt Battery. Pretty pleased with the system and its performance. Our bills - we're electric only here, rural area - are substantially lower than they once were. We actually tend to build a little credit in the…

Storing soft plastics for recycling
I want to start collecting soft plastics to take to the supermarket for recycling. Does anyone have a recommendation for a suitable (new or upcycled) receptacle to collect them in in the kitchen? I've looked at various things for sale online but unconvinced any of them are quite right for the job

A Shade Greener feed-in tariff solar panels - pigeon problems
I've read most articles on this issue and also reached out to "consumer champions" for help to no avail. My parents got these panels in around late 2014 on a 25 year lease, after being sold the idea by a salesman at the door. They were pretty ignorant of the whole thing and how it would work/be fitted other than the fact…

Solar Battery in Cold temperatures
Hello, can anyone tell me if a Solar Battery installed in a cold garage has less stored energy in the winter than in the summer? I had my Solaredge 10kWh (9.7kWh usable) battery installed recently in November and noticed I get approxtimately 6.5kWh- 7.5kWh of battery power after looking at some charts and numbers. At a…

Moving house - take my battery with me?
We had a Heatable instalation in Cornwall 2 years ago - 10 x panels with enphase microinverters plus 2 x 5kWh Alpha ESS batteries, a 5 kWh Alpha inverter and a Zappi car charger. We have now had an offer accepted on a new property that has an old dumb BP Chargemaster EV charger but no other green kit. The new house has a…

Inverter error and no power going to export meter
Dear all, I'd appreciate any wisdom that you can impart. We're happy to pay a professional if needed, but would like to avoid calling someone out if this is a simple issue. My MIL hasn't been getting paid for her solar exports for quite some time (this issue may go back as far as Apr-24). My FIL was the technology…

The Alternative Green Energy Thread
In an attempt to maintain harmony on Martyn1981’s Green, Ethical, Energy issues in the news thread, Mart and I have agreed that I will no longer contribute to that thread but instead start a separate thread which Mart has agreed not to participate on. The intention of the thread is that green energy issues can be discussed…

8.5 kW Bifacial PV System: ~7 year ROI: Fact OR fiction?
Updated system size is 8.45kW at a total installed cost of £10.5K. Current ROI is forecast at 6.5 years. Hi there, I've recently been quoted for solar panels from 3 installers referred by Solarguide. My guidance to these companies was maximum solar power yield per panel for their proposals. Quote: The LG panels are dual…

Should I go off-grid?
I live in quite a modern house down a road with lots of other houses on the outskirts of town. I believe the house has been supplied with electricity and gas ever since it was built. Until about five years ago, I used ebico to supply my energy. It was great because there was no standing charge. By not heating my house and…

How accurate are your PV generation figures?
I was impressed by some of the generation figures reported on the “talking ‘bout my generation” thread in December. I am curious, however, how accurate some of these figures might be at this time of year. I have noticed this month quite a wide variation between the figures recorded by my inverter app, my generation meter…

Fuel Cell Boilers - Thoughts?
Does anyone have any experience? Currently the ship seems to have sailed on getting them at an economical price as the FIT was withdrawn and then presumably since Brexit we are no longer eligible for the PACE grants? But if they were included in the green recovery deal I would definitely be interested, not sure what the…
