Adding solar to PW3

Signed up to have a PW3 installed shortly in double garage. Really good deal with local installer.

Currently no solar but want small solar array on the south side of garage roof at some point as house roof is annoyingly badly laid out.

One side of garage roof could fit maybe 4-6 panels I thought.

PW3 installer wants circa £3k for 6 panels they think they can get on the garage. No scaffolding required.

To me thats madness considering no inverter or scaffolding needed and they'll be onsite anyway doing the PW3.

Current Plan B would be to put a plugin solar kit up there (2 panels) DIY style in spring.

Do you think its worth getting other quotes from PW3 certified installers for the 4-6 panels only after PW3 installed or am I just experiencing the lack of economies of scale of a small solar install? I would prefer a bigger array.

Thanks

PW3 is a tope end branded item, so expect to pay top end money. Getting a 4x400wpanels £300 with 4 x flat roof mounting kits £120 and an inverter (able to handle panels) £130 and a power monitor £100. Total £650 and maybe £200 for an sparky to do the wiring. Less than a grand all in. It won't integrate with you power wall but is a is ideal for many.

  • Yes. The PW3 is IMO good value for the quote. The 6 panels isnt IMO.

Think ill be going none integrated plug in solar i guess

If your installer has yet to install the system, I would contact them and insist that offer the additional 6 panels for a total cost of £10.5K (PW3 + 6 X 515W Eurener bifacial panels). I would share that this is another quote received and use it as leverage. I've never seen a lower price (I look every day).

    -  10 x 400w LG Bifacial + 6 x 550W SHARP BiFacial + 2 x 570W SHARP Bifacial + 5kW SolarEdge Inverter + SolarEdge Optimizers. SE London.

    -  Triple aspect: ENE (2.7 kWp), WSW (3.3 kWp), SSE (2.4 kWp)

    -  Viessmann 200-W on Advanced Weather Comp. (The most efficient gas boiler sold)

Thing is pw3 is £5995 on its own (no gateway). Could never justify £4.5k on 6 panels with no inverter or scaffolding. Just isnt worth it.

Ill probably do a DIY thing after pw3 installed.

    Cheers
