Got PV and Battery but no EV yet?

I was just coming up to renewal time and finding that all large suppliers (I don't want to with a supplier at any risk of going under mid-fix) now need evidence of EV ownership (or at least the right to see evidence) to access tariffs with low overnight import rates.

Except…EDF Pod Point Plug and Power. Half price Pod Point Installation, the rest of the cost covered by higher standing charge over the (crucially) 2 year fix period. 6.19p/kWh import for 7 hours overnight. SEG 13p/kWh (only fixed for 12 months sadly, but most others at this kind of rate are variable and heading down)

Even if we don't get an EV for a while, the cost of the Pod Point installation is heavily subsidised by the savings compared with any other tariff available to us. There's no committment to actually get an EV to get these rates (unlike the other EDF tariffs) and until we need it ourselves we'll have charging available for visitors (they'll be paying if it's not overnight!). Crucially it's a fix over 2 winters - who knows what overnight rates could be like in 2 years' time. What's not to like?

I was moderately nervous about the EDF aspect. They've been more efficient so far than any other energy company I've been near in the last decade, including the supposedly perfect Octopus.

In that case stick with the big players in the market.
