What happens to newts if i move home.
My other half has become mentally ill and paranoid about new neighbours who have moved in and she begged me to move house and sell up. I want to do this for the sake of her mental state but I do worry about my garden and pond full of newts, a new owner could fill it in and cut down my trees. It is a bad situation and a…

Plastic greenhouse - when to open door?
Hi there. A keen but very much an amateur gardener, here. I have bought myself a 5-tier plastic greenhouse and have been using it to grow chilli and tomato plants for the last month or so. Up to now, I have always left the door closed, with a tray of water at the bottom, for humidity purposes. The only time I ever open the…

Garden hose spray lance
For years we have been using a spray lance with our hose with no issues, until last year when a storm broke it beyond repair. So we bought a replacement. The hose is Hozelock and the lance was also Hozelock. However we saw the reviews were not good saying it wasnt as good as previously. We gambled and went ahead and bought…

Because they are plastic, may they contain BPA? Am I overthinking when choosing some to protect my fruit crops?

Slug pellets
What are everyone's opinions on these? I'm fed up with using beer traps.

Time to Find Out Where your Local Plant Swap Events are!
Here in Nottingham, we've had about 4 swaps so far by different groups and the next on is a biggie by the Nott'm Organic Gardeners' Group. It's always a scram to this one as there's loads of plants of all kinds (mainly veg and flowers) and it brings a lot of interest. If you want to save money on going to exhorbitant…

How to save dying trees
Hello, I have these trees in my garden which are dying/dead. I didn’t plant them and know next to nothing about gardening. Last summer, I watered them relentlessly and quite a lot of green has started reappearing. How do I bring them back to life again? Should I pull all the dead brown parts off? Thanks

Ivy - best way to control it?
The garden is full of ivy which is now spreading faster than ever - up the trees, on the wall of the building, over the fences and in the flower beds. What is the best way to control it? Do I really have to dig the stuff up? Is it just a war of attrition? I already have one of those with the pesky alkanet.

Landrace gardening
I might be very late to the party here. I already practice no dig gardening, I don't use pesticides, I do make compost and thanks to the hotbin, have leachate to use for feed, I grow bocking comfrey for feeding, I let weeds mostly have their say apart from ragwort. My front garden style is a mix of edibles and a lot of…

They want to take my allotment away from me.
I've had my allotment since 2012. I practice a sort of semi-no-dig permaculture approach. I harvest potatoes, blackcurrants, rhubarb, broad beans, artichokes, asparagus, runner beans, squashes and courgettes, salads, broccoli and kale, radishes, chard and all the other little things. Occasionally things get a but weedy but…

Rainbow Roses
Looking through Ebay yesterday I came across Rainbow Rose seeds. Although I know it is possible to grow roses from seed you cannot grow these rainbow roses. I thought it was photoshopped, but having done some research, apparently not. They are made by cutting the stems into four sections and putting each cut section into…

Self mulching mower
How do these mowers work. My mower is meant to be self mulching, but it gets very noisy when I blank off the hole and it seems like the cut grass has no where to go. I do sometimes prefer not to collect the grass, so I take the bag off and leave the back open, by propping it open with a stick.
