Want to change electricity supplier
but need a point in the right direction. I should have done this months ago but have now amassed almost £400 in arrears (which i cannot afford) due to me not changing supplier sooner. My electricity is supplied by british gas, and i am currently paying 22.083p per kWh. I've been in my house for 9 months and never given a…

Cheap gas and electricity for charities
I am trustee of a local charity and we haven't changed our energy supplier for ages and the bills are very high. Is there any way of comparing prices for voluntary organisations as well as for domestic customers? We need to save money where we can, so it would make a big difference if we could reduce our bills.

Is your electricity meter an Ampy Automation model 5162E ?
Hi I'm with E.ON and recently requested and received from them their free energy monitor. So far so good. I need to identify the live wire coming out of my electricity meter, but there's no colour coding. There are two possible wires - just as they exit the meter one has "3" written on it, the other "4", and that's it.…

Unfairly charged
Hi I wonder if someone could help me. I moved into my flat on the 2nd July this year, as a first time buyer I have been given very little information to start with. I was aware I was using the previous occupier’s electricity (British Gas) where I was expecting to be contacted by them when I switched over to NPower, which I…

What energy meter?
Is there an energy meter type thingy that I can plug in the socket of each item that tells me how much that particular item is costing me to run? Trying to win an arguement with DH about his heater in his workshop!

Can't get rid of prepayment meter
I don't know if anyone here will know about this but I have moved into a half a house.. upper maisonette of a listed Georgian house and have been told that they can't change the electric prepayment meter to an ordinary credit meter as the fuse is common to both halves of the house. My question is why does that stop them…

Scottish Power cold caller using Martin's article as sales pitch!
Hi everyone, I had a persistant Scottish Power cold caller on my doorstep last night. I had to tell him 5 times I wasnt going to sign anything on my doorstep before he would leave and, although polite, I found him a little "hard sell". Unfortunately I didnt get his details but I wanted to post here as he used a photocopied…

Cost of hot water
Sorry if I seem to be a bit dim (I am!) but does anyone know if it is expensive to run the hot water only programme on the central heating? I have a normal (not combi) 2 year old boiler and I always have it set for the hot water to be on for 2 hours of a morning and 5 hours of an evening - it's just what I have always…

NPower Sign Online 19 Gas and Electricity
We have been with Npower for 2-3 years now, as they were more competitive than BG who we were originally with. We've given up switching companies as they all offer lower payments to sting you at the end of the year and put your direct debits up. Anyway, last week received a letter saying we were £142.10 in debit therefore…

Thinking about doing a first switch? any advice.
Hi, I've gone to the energyhelpline website and found that for gas, if i move to southern electric from British gas, I could save about £50 a year as their tariffs are cheaper. How difficult or complicated is this process to go through? is it done all online and take a few days to switch? or do they send forms in the post…

New flat-all electrics!!!
I have just moved into a two-bed housing association ground floor flat which has a number of issues. It has three walls exposed, very low ceilings and many small windows, which cannot be fully opened, double-glazed. I have an Economy 9 tariff with EDF (with a two hours boost in the afternoon). No gas connection. The…

Southern Electric debt threat - advice?!
Hi All, Totally new to posting in a forum but I've seen how helpful people can be from previous posts so hoping for some advice! My boyfriend and I rented a flat in a converted Victorian terraced house in May this year. In the tenancy agreement we were told that the supplier for Gas & Electricity was British Gas and should…

Energyhelpline - not the best
I have tried Energyhelpline to comapre tariffs, and while it found another company that had a cheaper tariff, it did not tell me that my current provider has a cheaper tariff than the one I am currently on. Moneysupermarket was much better! It found the cheaper tariff straight away. What's the difference: Current tariff…

EON Useage doubled after new meter installed - Help!
Hi All, We've had countless problems with Eon since they changed our meter 2 years ago. Firstly they discovered an extra meter (economy 7 and not used for years) which they charged us a backdated amount for (since refunded after a struggle) and then they lost details of them removing it (but all resolved now - I think!).…

e.on monitor brilliant
I got an e.on monitor and with the software I can tell how much energy is being used during the night and when I am not even at home. I have been studying my usage and during the night between 2am when I normally go to my bed, and 8am, I used on average 189 watts per hour. Then at 8am the usage jumped to 220 watts. Not a…
