What energy meter?
Is there an energy meter type thingy that I can plug in the socket of each item that tells me how much that particular item is costing me to run?

Banana Lovers
Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

I am sure there are many others, Aldi and Lidl do them now and again, although I have not seen them recently.
A google may help.0 -
Sigh...the heater in his workshop will have the rating marked on it on a plate somewhere...so if it's say a 2kW heater then it will use 2kWh per hour. Multiply the hours of use by the kWh rate on your tariff (around 10p) and you get the cost.
So a 2kWh heater on for 4 hours a day will cost 8 hrsx10p=80p per day.
You really don't need to pay out for inaccurate energy monitor to work out simple consumption and costs. No free lunch, and no free laptop

But does it use the same amount of electricity whether it is on high or low or in between? I'd have thought it doesn't and as such it's not easy to work out exactly what you're using as you turn up and down and off and on during the day.Sigh...the heater in his workshop will have the rating marked on it on a plate somewhere...so if it's say a 2kW heater then it will use 2kWh per hour. No, it will vary according to the setting. So half way up on a 2kW fire will be about 1kW.
Additionally, if it has a stat then that will cut in and out as it reaches the preset temp.No free lunch, and no free laptop

So not so easy to work out the cost per day then, which was my point.0

The monitor above claims to be accurate to 0.5%. Owl type monitors claim an accuracy of greater than 90%. Plug in monitors are accurate, monitors connected to the mains supply appear to only give a rough guide.
The power ratings shown on appliances are maximums and are there to help prevent you overloading sockets.0
