Chip & Pin security (??)
I’m not sure if this is in the right forum, but please re-direct me if
necessary. It concerns credit card fraud and the security or otherwise of Chip
& Pin. Last month, I was in Mexico, and when I got back I saw two entries on my
credit card account which were clearly fraudulent. They were for large amounts,
both on the…

Where to start with credit cards
Hi, I have managed to get into late 40's without ever having a credit card. I am travelling more these days and unsure which card would be the best for that, plus plan on using one for a larger purchase. Do I go for 0% interest or zero fees for spending abroad, or is there one that covers all? #clueless.

Negotiating with a lending paying off a credit card
Hi there Im in a position where I actually have some free cash to pay off a persistent credit card debt. How open are lenders likely to be if you offer them to pay say 50% of the outstanding debt (for example, I have £8k on one credit card and was thinking of offering £4k to pay if off) and agree to close the card and…

Someone wants to know my address...
A legit but not very trusted website wants my card details and (more worryingly) my address for an access to their service. The service is free, they say they just debit £1 and then refund it, to filter out spammers. In reality, they are likely to be the real spammers here, I am sure I will find tons of waste mail on my…

Big balance transfer
Hi there, I have a 0% deal running out and I need to do a 0% balance transfer to another card for an amount of 8300. I don't mind splitting, but ideally I'd like it to move to one card. I have an excellent credit rating and I can get pre-approval for a few cards. Trouble is, they won't give me a figure for maximum transfer…

Minimum Payment Markers
I recently requested a copy of my statutory credit report from Experian and noticed that a credit card account has minimum payment markers for 4 out of the past 12 months, despite me always clearing the balance in full before the payment due date (and, in fact, due to a low limit often cycling much more than the previous…

Credit Card Payment Allocation
I have a Credit Card with a 0% balance transfer balance and i use it for a few smaller purchases. I understood any payments i made would go against the most expensive debt, i.e anything i have purchased which is on a normal interest charge. When i look back over the last year i can see various deductions from the 0%…

We are planning a long haul flight around the world Westwards mainly using Star Alliance. I have been looking at using a credit card to gain air miles / rewards and considering Amex. Do I still need my Halifax Clarity card for foreign transactions?
I have a Halifax Clarity card solely for foreign transactions. But I was browsing the Natwest site today (I bank with them), and saw that the Natwest Credit Card has 0% foreign transaction fees. I think I have that already (I have a very old Natwest Mastercard), so I might as well cancel the Halifax one to save me managing…
