HP or Compaq recovery CD?
I have an old HP Vectra with a XE310 motherboard, running XP pro. I have all my stuff backed up and want to do a clean install (This machine will not be connected to the internet). A friend has offered me his Compaq XP pro recovery disk to use. Will it work or do I need the HP version? (which I am struggling to find).

Dodgy SD card?
I bought one of those cheap SD cards on ebay from China for only a couple of quid instead of circa a tenner or whatever. It seemed ok at first but now when I transfer music from my laptop onto the phone it gets messed up and plays the wrong songs or obliterated versions of them. Is this a simple problem with the SD card or…

Audio suddenly disappeared. Help!
So I come back to the PC to find it has rebooted for some reason and find a nice big X in the system tray against the loudspeaker image. 'No audio output device is installed' is the blatant lie now peddled by the system. Can anyone tell me how to get sound back, please? I'm running Vista Basic.

Is there any hope? things to try? Plugs/fuses all OK. Other locations…

Scanner with ADF
I have a Canon flatbed scanner but want to upgrade to one with an automatic document feeder (ADF). I did a lot of scanning recently and lifting and closing the lid for each page was tiresome. The jump in price for an ADF scanner from a flatbed is considerable say £200 - £250. I see that the all in one printers (say £100 to…

Best mp3 player to get my pensioner mum?
My mum still listens to CDs and seems to randomly break a stereo every couple of months or they just start jumping all the time. Rather than shell out for another and keep buying CDs I'd like to bring her into the modern age with an mp3 player and speakers. The main criteria would be that it's easy to read and navigate…

http://www.hotukdeals.com/ stopped working yesterday. I thought it was a temporary problem, but it's the same today, and http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/http://www.hotukdeals.com/ shows that it's up and it's just me. I was about to send a e-mail to my ISP (Plusnet), but tried using a VPN first - to no avail as well. So,…

New Laptop Help Please
The last laptop I bought was a refurb MSi CR160 as a result of advice on the sub £350 laptop thread. I think that was about 4 years ago. It has started giving me a black screen, sometimes it works ok, but I think it's time I replaced it. I'm currently using my old desktop to try and find a replacement. I've read recent…
