Best mp3 player to get my pensioner mum?

My mum still listens to CDs and seems to randomly break a stereo every couple of months or they just start jumping all the time. Rather than shell out for another and keep buying CDs I'd like to bring her into the modern age with an mp3 player and speakers.

The main criteria would be that it's easy to read and navigate with a good or decent sized screen, not too expensive, comes with speakers or they can be easily added and just generally a reliable model. Does anyone have any recommendations?Or is it worth getting her a tablet to listen to music on instead?

How does she keep breaking stereos? You will need some sort of stereo to listen to the output of the mp3 player. Are you willing to rip all her CD's and manage the music library?

I'd definitely go for a tablet. MP3 players tend to be on the small side and a bit fiddly but the tablet is much easier to work and with a far bigger display. It also has the advantage that you can load some videos onto it as well and she can get unusual tracks from youtube. She would also be able to use iplayer for BBC tv and radio programmes that she has missed, or even live radio.
If the speaker is not too good I would recommend a Bluetooth speaker.
I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Stereo jumping = damaged CD usually .

Key question is as said who is going to manage the music .
Where is she going to get the music from ??

Tablet is relative to what the budget is and not so good if house has no WiFi .

No tablet has good speakers. They are too small to fit decent ones in.

Tablet might be a good idea but I would suggest getting a used/second hand IPOD as many about now at low cost with large (ish) memory so you can put a fair bit of music on.

Add a docking station of some sort with DAB radio and you have a music centre. If higher ouput required you could add a speaker or 2 or even a soundbar with Bluetooth connectivity so no troublesome cables to worry about
